Predators acquire scoring depth

In two separate moves the Nashville Predators have acquired forwards Fredrik Modin and Michael Ryder. Leading up to the HFNHL trade deadline, the Predators are a busy team again, just like last season when future Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer was acquired.

Currently outside of the playoff spots in the tough Western Conference, the Predators have been hot lately, winning 8 of their last 10 games - and reinforcements are on the way.

From the Philadelphia Flyers the team has acquired left wing Fredrik Modin for prospect Mikko Lehtonen and depth forward Tanner Glass. Modin is a big, strong and expierienced forward who is thrilled to be on a team with fellow countryman and HFNHL AllStar Henrik Sedin.

Also out of the Atlantic Division, the team has traded for right wing Michael Ryder in exchange for defensive specialist Jeff Halpern. Ryder gives the team another option for the top six and on the powerplay.

Both acquired players are about to become unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.

Technically, I haven't exactly been loading up... I've just been swapping expiring and bloated contracts for younger long-term contracts in an attempt to get my finances under control and my roster for next season mostly in place. Among other things, I just packaged Petr Sykora (my leading goal scorer) for Upshall - doesnt' exactly fit my understanding of "loading up".

Given how tight the Central is, I think it's a (three-sided?) coin toss as to which of Drew, Nick or I takes the Division, and you still have a very legit shot of pushing someone out of the playoff picture. The team we all need to be worrying about (at least until the SCF, that is!) is Matt's Ducks -- I don't think anyone's catching them in the West this year.

But hey, if you want to make us out to be the "big bad Jackets", my guys will take that as encouragement.

i'm just frustrated, really. look at my team - there's only 4 teams in the league who have scored more goals than me and only 4 who have given up less. it makes me *****in angry to look at the standings.

Shhhh.... you're on a big win streak. I'm sure we'll be swapping places in the standings soon. I can't even beat up on the Flyers...

Sounds like you've been winning blowouts and losing close low-scoring games. That definitely sucks, but I think when the uneven games played balances out you'll be right in the thick of things. And you're looking good for next season as well, so the glass is definitely at least half full.
