Halpern: A healthy scratch?

Well, that was a high 3rd round pick well-spent. Purcell says, "hello".

It's a little early to be calling for the pick back and Purcell (). Give him some time. He hasn't been good by any stretch so far but he can still turn it around.

I'm guessing you were one of the ones calling for the 2nd rounder back for Richardson as well?

Healthy scratch for one game?

That's as bad as that useless bozo Frolov.

A guy like Halpern means a lot more to the team than a pick.

Nope. However, I WAS upset that we gave up such a high pick for Halpern, despite the pick being "extra".

We are one of the youngest teams in the NHL and our prospect cupboards are overflowing. We have 5 other picks in the first three rounds. We're close to the 50 contract maximum. Trading that pick will have no negative impact on the team even if Halpern doesn't contribute much. It was worth the gamble.

If the Kings had gotten Modin for a third and Halpern for Purcell, it would have worked out just the same and I doubt anyone would be complaining right now.

He may not have been very good, but he hasn't been necessarily very bad at all either. I don't see what scratching him for Ivanans accomplishes.

Ivanans can politely ask Bfufferin if He wants to fight

He has definitely been a disappointment so far though I'm surprised to see him benched so soon. I guess that's the bullet we have to bite now that our team is deeper, we no longer have players like Purcell or Harrold in the lineup who we can scratch in favor of Ivanans and not think twice about it.

Too bad though, a Clune-Stoll-Halpern line looked somewhat useful on paper. Now Stoll will basically be babysitting Ivanans.

I'm not going to contest that you have to trade something to get something, and I still think we needed a guy like Halpern for this playoff run.
I do however have a problem with people's position on the prospect cupboard overflowing and this concept of "extra" picks. Picks and prospects all have some value attached to them. To say that a pick is "extra" and also infer that a 3rd round pick has little value to the Kings is shortsighted. A 3rd round pick or a marginal prospect can move you up in the draft to get the player you want. Bundle together a few 3rd rounders a 2nd and you move up a few more spots. A few 3rds, a 2nd and your 1st and you move up even more spots.
This team is by no means complete and the prospect pool, while strong, is still sorely lacking in some areas. The Kings will still need those picks and/or the value that is attached to them to make this team a perennial contender.
The upcoming draft will be in LA. I expect DL to be active and looking to make an impact through trading up. He will need all of his available picks to make something happen.

I don't know what you'd expect from a guy playing limited minutes on the 4th line on a new team. Halpern adds depth and experience and he can still be a valuable contributor down the line.

No biggie, it's just one game.

Didn't Halpern tear his ACL last season? He will be better next year much like Handzus was his 2nd season...

Both he and Modin won't be on the team next year. They're rentals with expiring contracts. We basically traded one press box bench warmer for another. Way to go, Dean!

At least that Modin trade looks like a steal.

And people are complaining? Ivanans always plays against the bigger teams, i.e. Chicago, and so Halpern is just the unlucky one who has to sit. At this point it's just a numbers game.

... Go ahead and list what he means to this team. I'll wait.

He doesn't play offense, his defense is decent but he's nowhere near a defensive specialist, and he's lost more faceoffs than he's won since he joined the team. So what is it that he does?

TM wants another big body against the Blackhawks. That's basically the short of it.

Good. Dude needs to wake up. We're in the middle of the stretch run and we can't afford to have a weak link in the lineup. I know he is a veteran and all but even vets need a little wake up call once in a while. Hopefully this gets him going.

I expect a fired up Kings team tomorrow.

Seriously. And if in the game Ladd or Bufuglien ran one of our smaller guys people would've complained about Ivanans not being in the lineup to exact retribution of some kind.
