The "Remainder of the Season" thread

I guess I've seen a lot of threads about this so might as well only have one for discussing the remainder of Toronto's season and their quest to get out of the bottom 2.

Current Standings

Toronto's Schedule

Teams Toronto are chasing

Tampa Bay Lightning
4 points ahead of Toronto
equal number of games played
2 more wins than Toronto

Remainder of Schedule

***There are 2 games against Florida and 2 against Carolina and 1 against Columbus who are all in contention to be passed by the Leafs***

New York Islanders
4 points ahead of Toronto
equal number of games played
3 more wins than Toronto

Remainder of Schedule

***1 game against Columbus who are in contention to be passed by the Leafs***

Carolina Hurricanes
4 points ahead of Toronto
equal number of games played
4 more wins than Toronto

Remainder of Schedule

***2 games against Tampa Bay who are in contention to be passed by the Leafs***

Florida Panthers
5 points ahead of Toronto
1 game in hand
3 more wins than Toronto

Remainder of Schedule

***2 games against Tampa Bay and 1 against Toronto***

Columbus Blue Jackets
6 points ahead of Toronto
equal games played
3 more wins than Toronto

Remainder of Schedule

***1ne game against the New York Islanders and 1 game against Tampa Bay who are both in contention to be passed by Toronto***

I will update this frequently

I highly doubt that we'll get out of the bottom-two.

The teams around us are winning lots of games, there's not enough time to get past them.

Mayyybe Tampa will continue their freefall, but I can't say it's guaranteed.

well with Tampa playing 5 games against other teams we are chasing as long as they don't split the games there is a win win situation..
if they have a turnaround and win say 4/5 games that is 4 losses from teams chasing us and if they continue to play at the pace they have been playing at and only win 1/5 we should be able to catch them

nice was hoping someone would look at this. Thanks

I think im being pretty realistic and Leafs go .500 and catch Lightning, Islanders and Panthers. I really hope they are out of the bottom 2 and bottom 5 would be a dream

they're 2 games above .500 at home

that's great to see alot of games will be played there

whatever it takes to ensure Boston does not get a top 3 pick needs to be done

They will need a 7-3 finish from here on in to get out of the bottom.

As long as there from Rangers, Penguins, Sabres I'll be fine with that finish. I know it doesn't really matter if we loose to Canadians or Bruins opposed to rags etc, but I'd really like to see some wins against rivals, and wishful thinking would be beating Buffalo

its not over till its over.....

we have a huge advantage over the bottom teams. we benefit by winning while the others benefit by losing.

try to be positive. i know its been a disappointing season but its almost over. you know that no matter what happens with respect o the boston picks burke will make some nice trades, sign some ufa, and do his best to wheel and deal to bring us a respectable team come the fall.

this is an exciting time in leaf land

That loss to the Panthers was HUGE.

Tampa Bay gained +2
Florida gained +2
Carolina gained +1
Edmonton gained +2

*****. Hope for the best against Atlanta.

We will also NEED Florida to lose tomorrow against the Lightening (in regulation). And then a win on Tuesday against the Panthers, and we will be 1 point out of the bottom 2 (although Florida will have a game in hand).
****, they came up short again. Not surprising though.

I have a feeling we are going to go cold in the remaining 9 games. Hopefully not, but time will tell.

The Islanders are losing big to the Rangers today. That's slightly good news for the Leafs.

I think the Leafs will fare better now that they don't have any more games versus teams they're chasing. Against Florida that was a big time game and the team buckled. In their defense, they're really young, and just starting to mesh together.

I can't wait to see what moves Burke will pull off in the off-season, both with his trades, his draft picks (however low), and free agency.

So essentially 10 more games vs the Oilers?!?

why? someone other than the Leafs is going to pick top 3, what difference does it make who it is?

wouldn't it be better for the B's to get the pick than the Isles or Tampa?

I completely agree with this mentality. The pick has been traded, I could care a less who picks where now either. Won't change my thoughts on the trade one iota.

Beauty goal by Grabo.

We kept pace with:

Hurricanes
Lightning
Rangers
Islanders
Blue Jackets

We gained

+2 on Panthers
+1 on Atlanta

Trade or not, why would you want one of our biggest rivals to get Hall or Seguin? I would much rather see them both in the West (Edm, Clb).

You play your division opponents 6 times a season right? I do not want Hall or Seguin dominating us for the next 10 years as a Bruin

1999 - Sedin

Obviously there are some good players there, but at 3rd overal I'd probably only take Toews and Sedin (only with his twin) over Kessel. Maybe Duchene.

As for the 4th overall pick in the last 10 years, there is NOBODY I would take over Kessel, by a country mile. The only one I would consider would be Backstrom.

There is no guarantee with the draft. In 1999, The Islanders had 4 Firsts with 3 top 10 picks and picked Connoly, Pyatt, and Mezei, and Kudroc at 5, 8, 10, and 28th overall.

Boston should have targetted a roster player for Kessel. Trading for futures ONLY is risky. The Leafs will win this trade long term, I have faith.

1 step closer tonight. Alot of teams around us lost. Columbus (though against Isles and a 3 point game), Tampa and Florida are ones I noticed that lost. We're like 4 points out of 11th in the East or something.
