A loss against Pitts tomorrow would be a huge blow

Hopefully their plane arrives in time and they get lots of sleep

Huge game against Pittsburgh. Really because no other team we are chasing is playing.

Hopefully Crosby decides we are not worthy of his presence tomorrow.

Out of the 3?

I was wondering that with 7 games left is it possible for us to get out of the bottom 3.

The leafs went 9-3-1 to move from 29th in the league to... yes 29th in the league. We gained about 3 pts of ground, over a 14 game span we're we we're winning 75% of our games.

So if 75% record over 12 games gained us 3 pts we're going to need an over 75% record over 7 games to gain another.

(We need to gain 3 pts of ground. to pass both Carolina and Florida.)

So that means, if trends continue, and 75% of 7 being 5.25, we need to go 6-1 for the last 7 games to get out of 29th spot and to jump over 28th and 27th.

You think we can do it, or do you think we'll have a little more luck these last 7 games?

You would have to look at the schedules for the teams we are chasing over the last 13 games and compare it to the same teams' schedules with the remaining games.

i just want 28-- it would help if a team just hit the tank. We have some hard games against desperate teams. I suspect 29th is where we end up.

Eh. I'm hopeful that the Leafs will manage to climb a couple of spots in the standings, but we'd need a couple of other teams to utterly implode for the rest of the season to have any real shot at it while maintaining the winning ways of March. Still, the fact that they're even close at all is good, considering just how poorly they did earlier in the season.

Of course I'd like it if they finished on a high note, but the fact that they can finish - hypothetically - with a .500 record (if you ignore that pesky OTL points thing) is staggering to me. Sure, they'd have to win every single last game of the season for it to happen and that's incredibly unlikely, but this is a team that only managed to win 4 times in 27 games in October and January. November wasn't much better than that, either.

Won't be able to know until the next season starts, but I'm intrigued to see whether this recent improvement will actually carry over or not.

With the new NHL it takes forever to climb in the standings. It's great for teams that are ahead, but it's really hard for the teams who are behind.

Since we are behind, I woldn't bank on moving p, although I'm watching the standings day to day to see what (if any) movement there is

That 0-7-1 start really is a kick in the balls right now. Pretty much decided the entire season within the first ten games. If the team even manages to go 4-3-1 to start, it's an entirely different picture than it is now.

I think if we win 4 of our last 7(76pts), we could potentially jump 2 of those teams.

The Florida loss last week make a lot of difference now. Would have been 1 point out rather than 3.

Even though the players on these teams want to win, secreatly the GM's and Coaches of these teams want to loose to get a better pick so I think you will see a lot of back ups playing. That would also help the leafs.

The Jackets and Isles definitely have the toughest schedule and look at Tampas schedule. They face the Jackets, Canes and Panthers (x2). If they get hot, we could gain on a few teams or they get cold and we catch them. I almost want them to win all their games so we can gain on more teams.

Weird. We face the 6-7-8-9-10th place teams in our final 6 games.

We'd be ahead of them by 1 if we won that game. If we would have beat the Isles not long ago we would be tied.

We will end up 27th or 28th if we play out the season the way we are playing now.
Islanders have a tough schedule, Carolina, Florida and TB all play each other a few times lets hope no OT in those games.

27th would be perfect. Outside of the Big 3 territory.

I think it comes down to those back to back games of TB vs. FLA. If one of those teams can win both in regulation, then we can probably catch the other. If they split the games, or worse, split them both in overtime, then we are probably stuck at 29.

Updated.

Great comeback against the Rangers! Jonas let in a weak goal but at least Lundqvist returned the favor.

+2 on:

-Carolina
-Florida
-Lightning

+1 on:

-NY Rangers
-Columbus

Penguins are gonna be tough but I KNOW we can grind this one out! Kessel is due for a point this game!

PS- The Florida loss really stings now. If we had won today's game could have potentially put us over them. Ah well, we still have enough games to jump ahead.

Man... those recent losses to the Panthers and Isles REALLY hurt. If we had won those games in regulation it would look like this:

Columbus- 73 pts
Tampa Bay- 72 pts
Toronto- 72 pts
Carolina- 71 pts
NY Islanders- 70 pts
Florida- 69 pts

Throw in the loss to Carolina and we're really in the driver seat. We seem to beating the playoff teams but not the ones just above us to get outa the basement.

In the last 10 games, the Leafs have gained:

6 on Carolina
7 on Florida
9 on Tampa Bay
4 on the Islanders
4 on Columbus
6 on Minnesota
