only 80 points in 80 games in the BCHL? Don't expect to see him make a lasting impact with the club. By comparison Kyle Turris had 193 points in 110 games in the same league during the same time frame. Although it looks like Bishop went back to the BCHL as an overager and did dominate, so who knows.
You're comparing the numbers of a NCAA free agent to a #3 overall pick to assess a signing? We certainly have an unrealistic fan base.
Here was my report in 2009 at our development camp:
BISHOP: Well he wins the blown-up wide open opportunities for sure goals award. Implicates himself in the play, but received at least 2 golden passes and had 2 open nets but decided to shoot on some one-timers that he missed. Not bad, not great. I think that there are other players that deserved a look before him. But he's not a bad hockey player.
And on another post, I had him in my "intriguing category" when I heard he was invited.
I got to watch him play fairly regularly in the BCHL for the Vernon Vipers. Hard worker, leader, good skater, definitely an agitator who's not afraid to get his nose dirty. He had 57 goals in 60 games in his final year in Vernon.
I actually was surprised to hear that he wasn't drafted! Definitely worth the gamble.
