3/04/14 - Minnesota Wild @ Chicago Blackhawks - 7:00PM CDT/3:00AM Suomi - NBCSN

Tonight your Minnesota Wild face the Chicago Blackhawks

VS

39-26-11 --- 42-19-15
89 Points --- 99 Points
7th West --- 5th West

Storyline:

The Minnesota Wild look to take advantage of a shorthanded Blackhawks team on Thursday when the two clubs meet up in Chicago. The Wild are in a tight race with Phoenix and Dallas for the last two spots, every game is a big one now.

Minnesota began its current road trip on a sour note when it suffered a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on March 27. With games against the Phoenix Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings and the Blackhawks remaining on the trip, talk of another late-season collapse by the Wild began. But third-period comeback wins against the Coyotes and Kings have breathed new life into the Wild, who will play four of their final five games at home after Thursday.

Key injuries:

Wild: Minnesota will be without center Mikael Granlund, who was injured during the second period Monday against the Kings. Wild coach Mike Yeo said Wednesday he did not have an exact diagnosis on Granlund, only that he has an upper-body injury and that his status beyond Thursday remains unknown. Granlund missed 13 of 14 games earlier this season and all but 29 seconds of another.

Hawks: Jonathan Toews was ruled out for the remainder of the regular season with an upper-body injury sustained Sunday against the Pittsburgh Penguins after a hit by Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. He along with Patrick Kane are expected to be back for the playoffs.

Uh oh, facing a team with some big time players injured in a very critical game? Will we power through or will this be a typical Wild should win game that we look like crap in and lose?

gotta give the man making this GDT some credit. A Suter/Hossa fight to entertain me this morning. Very nice touch.

With no Kane or Toews to deal with, I'm expecting the Wild to win this game.

Yeo says Niederreiter will not play tonight and Heatley will be in the lineup.

Heatley will probably score twice tonight. Yeo will praise how well he responded and he'll draw back into the lineup the final 5 games.

Heater in for nino tonight. Can't say I'm surprised. No reason to risk nino after that hit.

Please do not let Granlund's injury effect this team like it did last time.

I'll be taping this one while I'm at work tonight. Really excited about this game. The Wild should be feeling good after the last two games. Stoked to see Haula's speed with Moulson and Pominville. Wild win 4-2.

Moulson, Parise x2. Brodin.

The good news here is that apparently keeping Nino out is a precautionary measure. Yeo said he hasn't had any problems after the hit.

Quote:
Yeo did say Niederreiter isn’t having any ill effects from the Jake Muzzin hit, but the team wants to be careful with a potential head injury.

Really looking forward to this one. It seems like we are usually able to give the Blackhawks a pretty good game. Without Toews and Kane we should be able to win this one.. Really wish Granlund wasn't hurt but I hope he's back soon. They are waiting to get back to the Twin cities to talk too much about it right? I think the Wild win tonight! Great GDT today! And love the Smashmouth Lapa!

No Toews or Kane should make this one of the best times to play the Blackhawks... Still don't think this will be an easy game.

I don't know... we were 3-1 vs them when they did have Toews and Kane... with Heatley back in the lineup and without Toews and Kane... we're in trouble. Typical Wild overlooking an opponent that looks weaker, thus plays overly relaxed.

The Wild tend to play to what they expect of their opponent.
