Versteeg as our #3 C next year?

Given how well Versteeg has played at C (Alot better then I expected)

Do you think the Hawks may retain him as our #3 C next year since Madden is probably going to be too expensive to resign?

If this is case I think it means Buff/Sharp are the ones to go this offseason not Versteeg/Buff as many (Including myself) have thought

Resign Ladd + Promote Skille

Ladd-Versteeg-Skille = Real intriging 3rd line option for us next year

No - Versteeg will be one of the $3M+ guys to be gone.

We could probably re-sign Madden to 3m or less...

bye bye Versteeg.

We can get a good 3rd Line Center for less

I think having Versteeg penciled into the number 3 center would feel a lot like having Sharp centering the second line.. a fine injury fill-in but a poor longterm solution.

Versteeg is better, I think there should be NO doubt.

But I think we can have a 1.5 Mio > 3rd Line Center.

As a 3rd line player, the answer would be definitely yes (in terms of what a 3rd liner's role is - imo- it is mainly defensive); Versteeg needs at least 2nd line minutes (and frankly, I think he also has the talent to justify that) - the problem is that, there isn't that slot there currently for him -which isn't to say that there shouldn't be -but that is a different question.

I guess what I'm saying is that imo Versteeg is way too talented offensively (at this point in his career), to stash him away on a 3rd line, and also would bring the biggest return in trade (which isn't to say that I want to trade the guy ... but if there isn't a slot... well, there isn't a slot -so might as well free up that money one way or another.).

I don't know if he'd work out at center full time or not- but I think maybe it might be worth finding out before going into the offseason where some people are going to be moved. Personally I am not sold on Bolland necessarily (which isn't saying anything about him - but rather -who do you want to keep... tough choices all the way around). If there is a way to keep Versteeg I would probably rather that- even though I've been in favor of trading him (that's all about the hypothetical potential return).

no we can get a much better #3 center for 3 mil or most likely less

on a side note i would love for th ehawks to aquire dubinsky from new york as a #3 center i think he would really hel;p us out alote ...he is very solid defensivly, plays physical hes big and strong....and hes got 2nd line talent hes put up 16 goals and 36 points in only 58 games this year on a offensivly starved ranger team....i think he would be great for us i can see him being a 20+goal 60 point player with us...he would really help strengthen us down the middle and you can never be too deep at center ...and hes only 1.85 mil cap hit

i would trade sharp to new york for dubinsky +

If Sharp is the target, I'd imagine Dubinsky would be available.

Too expensive , He will want Pahlsson type contract

No 3rd line C is worth that , At least with Versteeg he would have offensive upside to be worth it somewhat

He's playing for like league minimum now, you really think he's due for that much of a raise?

Agreed. He thought he was going to get Pahlsson money last offseason...then the Jackets ended up giving that money to Pahlsson while Malhotra is playing for chump change. He's a realistic target.

Can find a decent third line center for roughly 1 million. Our bottom six is going to take a hit talent wise next year, but should be just as responsible defensively.

At attempting to dangle the entire opposing team at the blue line, and then getting the puck stripped.

More and more, I'm beginning to think that the 'Hawks 3rd-line center next year is Bolland.

Bolland never seems to come up in cap-related discussions, but if I had a choice of Buff/Sharp or Versteeg/Bolland, it would be Buff/Sharp in a landslide.....

Versteeg would net the Hawks the best return (Outside of Sharp) while clearing up a logjam. He needs to be playing 1st/2nd line minutes with higher caliber teammates, and that wont happen here.

Best return + easily replacable (in terms of role, not skillset) = see ya lada gaga.

LOL....Versteeg has had ONE decent season in the NHL. Madden an entire career. Been a major cog in how many Cups? Versteeg has more raw talent but that doesn't make him a better HOCKEY PLAYER. Madden has a much better hockey IQ.
