Changing of the Guard

I see that Lowetide and Cerebral are no longer listed as moderators here and I think that it is appropriate to thank both of them for many years of service.

I have no doubt that there is a wide divergence of opinion on what kind of job each of them has done simply because there is a wide divergence in the personalities of the posters who frequent this site. But I also know that the job is mostly thankless and that anybody who has given up their time and mental health trying to babysit this crowd for that length of time deserve to be recognized for their efforts.

Thank you both.

I haven't been a regular here for that long, but it doesn't take long to realize how tough it must be to babysit us stubborn posters.

Thanks.

Our board is blessed with a lot of great posters, but we also have a ton of trolls and bad posters that those two mods managed wonderfully. They managed the board through some trying time and it is still the best board on this site, so thanks from all of the posters should be in order.

They may have done a good job but there's still too many personal attacks on here. IMO we need more active mods not less, on a board with this traffic would it hurt to have say 8-10 mods who tried to keep discussions civil?

I agree with this. On a board this active, I don't think there are enough.

The problem is finding a bunch of people that would do a good job. There probably aren't many that I could name off the top of my head.

but the hard part is getting mods who are not out with personal vendettas against some posters and know they have to separate what happened previously before they were mod.

I have been around here long enough to have delt with great mods who saw the bigger picture and some who --well--suddenly felt they were in charge of the place and decided to change how things were.

A few years ago on another board I hit all the time they went through a few mods quick and as one admin said--"Some people come some people go--it all comes down to how you handle it while you are here"

sorry to see Lowetide go--but I think it was partly due inactivity ala Rabi Sulton a few years ago

yes the board is busy, but do we really run into that many problems in the course of a day? Either the current moderators are doing a good job or the vast majority of people here are good natured. I'd say its the former.

I get the feeling some people would like to see this place run like a jail with extremely strict regulation... but the current system is much better.

All this turnover and Cloned is still around? It's only a matter of time before I'm traded to the worst team in the league and forced to cheer for them against my will.

Oh wait, that's happening already...

To Cerebral and Lowetide, thanks for the hard work and enjoy your retirement in Alberta Hospital, I'll tell the caretakers to loosen up your straight jackets on Draft Day so you can attempt to fist pump the Hall/Seguin selection.

So you have no issue with people talking badly about others in threads that they aren't even currently involved in or calling people names instead of debating the topic at hand? You have a right to your opinion but IMO there's still too much of this from a handful of people (albeit not the majority).

Much of which has been warranted considering where this team is in the standings.

I'll give thanks to two guys that mostly operated in the shadows, but did their job for a long time.

I agree. Most of the team's history over the past 3 years has been pretty bad (Heatley/Hossa saga's, Pronger fiasco etc.), and they've done a great job to keep things under control here.

Thx for all the hard work LT and Cerebral. We aren't the easiest group to manage and they both did a fine job.

There is probably a few kicking around here, but the list is small.

Thanks for all the hard work LT and Cerebral.

theoil, you're a class act for creating this thread and as a former mod yourself, you most definitely know what this "job" entails. So I'd like you say thank you as well, as I never took the opportunity before.

Cerebral and Lowetide, thank you very much. You guys are great and your service here is very much appreciated.

ive been here since 05, i remember when lowetide used to p0ast on the reg. he's quality in terms of contributions and moderation, but i dont think its possible for me to agree with a particular poster any less. I respect Lowetide and read his blogs from time to time, and I think he's probably a good person. He's definitely a pretty good writer. but in terms of being in agreeance of opinion, I have virtually never agreed less with any one person on this website.
