It's painfully obvious to me anyway. The guy got hurt before the Olympics, went to the Olympics, played hurt, and there's speculation that Marian aggrevated an already oft-injured groin playing during the Olympics.
Gabs also seems not to have that same explosiveness to his step that we saw during the first half of the season when he was tearing it up. Right now it is evident that something is slowing him down.
I'd like to hear all of your thoughts on the issue. Should he continue playing? Or should he rest and take time to rehabilitate his aches and ailments? I'd rather go with the latter. The guy has been the lone offensive threat on the team to score in just about every game this season. Let him come back refreshed and ready to go for next season. However, I fear that Tortorella and even Gaborik himself are too proud to admit that anything is going on, and Marian will do his best to play through whatever is bothering him.
Without question. I was at the NYR/Buff game last week and after a shift in the 2nd period, he could barely get over the boards. Took him about 5 or 6 seconds to get is left leg over.
No doubt he is. Another problem is that the Rangers aren't playing the system which allows him to utilize his speed. Anytime he's on the ice hes got about 3 feet of room to skate in... Not fun.
Wow would he look great in Laviolette's system when healthy ...
Then you'd have a scorer thats actually a respectable person
Seriously, though, he's definitely hurt. He doesn't have the acceleration or the top speed that he had at the beginning of the season. Sure, he's tired but it seems like more than that.
Doesn't take a genius to figure out that Gaborik isn't right. He can hardly even skate out there. The only area that he has still been marginally effective at is the PP because he's not being constantly harassed and has some open space. At even strength he's been pretty much non-factor since he got injured
he looked like he was playing injured or banged up after the olympics. the past couple games hes been playing pretty good and almost scored numerous times today

being tired doesnt explain it. he just doesnt have that burst of speed he had earlier in the year. hes operating at half speed, if that. Its been a pretty grueling year for Gabby. The lone offensive weapon on a team, and the olympics where he was one of only 2 real legit offensive weapons. I think he needs the summer to come, and in a hurry.
Go get him some effing help. Get me Kovalchuk and Seguin damn it.

So much for the fable that his chronic groin problems are a distant memory never to be seen again, as we have been spoon-fed.
he was sliced with a skate, and then played when he probably shouldnt have in order to represent his country. its not like he pulled up lame during a game. the guy tried to show some heart and almost carried his team to a medal. i give him a lot of credit for that.

I have no quarrel with Gaborik's heart. My quarrel is with the idea that he is now impervious to groin problems because the hip was the cause for the groin problems. That is what we were told.
Are you now telling us that being cut with a skate caused a groin problem and that it is a coincidence?
I'm not buying that. Lots of players get cut and never develop groin problems as a result. I don't ever remember hearing that as an excuse for a groin issue for any other player.
Isn't it far more likely that his groin issues remain a health concern long-term for him, and if true, doesn't that send up a red flag that he may be forever damaged goods?
If that was the case for a fringe player it would be one thing, but when it's a guy signed to a huge, long contract, it's an enormous risk with possibly dire consequences.
By the way, Gaborik hasn't been the same player he was early in the year, even before the skate cut.

Who the hell said he hurt his groin? This is speculation, don't act like it is a sure thing. He isn't "damaged goods" just because you are assuming he hurt his groin.

he was cut on his leg, which caused him to alter his stride, altering his stride coupled with playing before he was healed = groin problems.
