Gustavsson? Greiss? Sateri? Nabokov??? Who should the team go after, or should they bring up 1 or 2 of there top prospects?

Open casting call in SF bay area, much like cheerleader tryouts. Ham sandwich will win the roll but will ultimately get replaced because of an excess of swiss cheese. Jonas Hiller will be blamed.

I say we push hard to nab Halak or Renne. Our window is closing and these two ready to play NOW and many years down the road ... let Nabby walk. He's my favorite player but I'm convinced now is the time.

Agreed. I love Nabby, but if he is sucky this spring, then let him go.

If Nabby gets us the cup he'll be back. If not then Halak, with Greiss getting more starts then he got this year

Jonas Gustavsson in TO. He is only signed for this season and we wanted him, so I think its fair to say that we would be interested. But I do think Halak would look great in teal.

Greiss the starter, cheap journeyman backup, investing the money in the D. If Greiss is not getting it done by the trading deadline, trade for someone who gives us a better shot. With better D in front of him Greiss should look better.

I know I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't mind Turco at the right price for a 1 or 2 year contract. His puck-handling would help our break-out and back-end immensely... teams wouldn't be able to fore-check us as aggressively and I think it would lead to spending a significant amount less time in our zone.

Tyson Sexsmith. He's a winner, and that's exactly what this team needs. A goalie who wins big games (no, I'm, not serious)

Karlsson and sharks propspects will get a chance - Griess or Stalock are a year away i'm thinking so we need one for 1-2 years. Halak/Renne would be interesting, i'll update/edit as there are more canidates outside the sharks org. Not sure we can afford Turco or that i'd want him.

If we wil the Cup or get very deep into the playoffs with Nabber starting his value and UFA price will go up and we won't afford him. If we done early we won't want to re-sign him. I really don't see any way he's back next season.

Re-signed two years with Nashville at 3.4 million.

He has been a key part of their success this year. I'd be real surprised if they parted with him. The good news is their are plenty of available goalies and very few starting spots.

Dead set in goal:
1. Buffalo (Miller)
2. Vancouver (Loui)
3. Boston (Rask+Thomas)
4. NYR (Lundy)
5. Calgary (Kipper)
6. New Jersey (Brodeur)
7. Anaheim (Giguere)
8. Minnesota (Backstrom+Harding)
9. Carolina (Ward, may grab some insurance should Ward continue to have injury trouble)
10. Colorado (Anderson)
11. Florida (Vokoun- trade bait?)
12. LA (Quick)
13. Nashville (Rinne)
14. Toronto (Giguere)
15. Montreal (Price+Halak)
16. Phoenix (Bryzgalov)
17. Pitt (Fleury)
18. Dallas (Lehtonen- not sure he is better than Turco, but they are going with him.)
19. Columbus (Mason)
20. Chicago (Huet, not sure they will keep him however, but if they don't they won't be after Nabby)
21. Edmonton (Khabibrewin; may pursue upgrade?)
22. NYI (Roloson, Dipeitro)
23. Detroit (Howard+Osgood)

Have young starter will likely want borderline #1 to platoon
24. Atlanta (Pavelec)
25. Caps (Varlamov)
26. Ottawa (Elliot+Leclaire; may look for upgrade on Leclaire, or find cheaper back-up.)

Unique situation
27. Tampa (Smith is capable, but has been way outplayed by Nittimaki, they may try to keep both.)

Need starter
28. San Jose (Nabby UFA)
29. Philly (Boucher is their current #1)
30. St. Louis (Mason has been good, but I have no doubt they will set their sights on an upgrade in the form of Nabby or a young gun like Halak, Harding or Price).

Available in order of ability:
-Evgeni Nabokov
-Carey Price/Jaroslav Halak
-Nick Backstrom/Josh Harding
-Tim Thomas
-Anterro Nittimaki/ Mike Smith
-Marty Turco
-Martin Biron
-Dan Ellis
-Chris Mason
-Pascal Leclaire
-Corey Schneider
-Vesa Toskala

In my opinion, the only two threats to sign Nabby are St. Louis and Tampa, with Atlanta and Dallas having outside shots. The first two have the cap space, and possibly the need for a #1 (I do think Smith is fine, but I think Tampa exemplifies the grass is greener, and would see Nabby as such). For the other two, Nabby is better than their young goalies, but I think they have moved out the older goalie (Lehtonen and Turco) to change the guard. Signing Nabby goes against their current organizational philosophies IMO, but he may be a significant enough upgrade where it would be worth considering. Edmonton also needs a #1 with Khabi being mediocre, but they won't be competing for the rest of Nabby's career, and they have a few solid young guys. I also don't see the need for them to be spending 8 million+ on goaltending. Not to mention we know how Russian goalies feel about Edmonton's weather http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ns14hRqwY8 .

It isn't that Nabby isn't an upgrade, but he isn't significant enough of one that someone will move a young starter, or shake-up the team's dynamic (i.e. Vokoun, Nabby, Brygalov, and Giguere aren't significantly different enough to make a swap).

I think it will likely go something like this.

Philly- Halak/Harding/Ellis
St. Louis- Mason/Halak/Harding/Nabokov
Dallas-Biron/Ellis/Mason/Toskala+Lehtonen
Tampa- Smith+Nittimaki/Nabokov/Bargain bin
San Jose-Nabby/Nittimaki/Halak/Harding/Mason/Biron/Toskala

Personally, I'd be happy with any of the first 5 I put for San Jose and okay with Biron. For me it is a question of whether the extra 2 million that would be spent on Nabby is better used for keeping Clowe or Setoguchi, or for allocating toward the defense.

Guys, Rinne was signed to a contract by the Preds. I don't think they're letting him go.

EDIT: matt beat me while I was reading other stuff, bleh.

Thanks for doing the list.

I just don't believe that Backstrum is available, I like Harding and Halak off this list. I'm not interested in anyone on the bottom 2/3 of the list.
We need to add to the list - best goalies not playing in the NHL. The Kings have Bernier for example in the AHL...

Jaroslav Halak is probably the best available option outside the organization but he's going to cost a lot to bring in and there's really no reason to pay that price for a goalie. Gustavsson is restricted and Toronto has no motivation to move him. Rinne and Ellis haven't been all that different from each other this year. Since it seems like Nashville's decided to go with Rinne, getting Dan Ellis might not be a bad move to ease Greiss into the position.

Either way they want to go, they shouldn't spend too much money or assets to get it done. I'd rather go with a weak goalie that plays behind a much stronger blue line than another strong goalie in front of this very weak blue line.

Crap! When the hell did Rinne sign? My head must been in the clouds ...

Okay, let's try this again ... I say we push hard for Halak. I'd let Nabby walk, re-sign Marleau and trade Joe to Montreal. We'd have to take some salary back - maybe Hamrlik and his 5+ mil in return with Halak? If we bomb and Joe doesn't show, T-Mac and DW need to man up and trade Joe while his value is still high. My two cents ...

Tim Thomass would look pretty good in Teal, and he just lost his starting job to Raask.

I wouldn't take Thomas off of Boston unless they gave the Sharks that Toronto 1st round pick this year. A 35+ contract for another three years and already showing signs of declining is not an appealing option to me.

There were rumors the Panthers were shopping Vokoun at the deadline - he's 33 now and would have one year left on his contract. He would also make just about as much as Nabby is now - may be worth it. (Assuming we couldn't get Halak)
