Load up the top 2 lines? Good.
Sit Shannon for Smith? Hmmm.

On paper these lines should give any team on a hard time.

He was getting ready for a run. I'm going to go hunt for quotes cause I'm pretty sure Murray said as much

http://communities.canada.com/OTTAWA...dline-day.aspx

Quote:
"I had a couple calls about Anton," said Murray, who is still trying to work out a deal to keep the expert shot-blocker in the fold beyond this season. "I have talked to his agent a couple of times today, we didn't get anything done, but we are talking and that's a good thing.

"I told him in my last call that I was not going to trade him," Murray continued. "I've said all along, I've said to our staff, what I want to do here by adding Matt Cullen and Andy Sutton and acquiring enough depth to give our team the best chance come the latter part of the year and then in the playoffs. The message would have been kind of mixed if I would have gone out and moved a player like Anton."
Sounds like a guy with playoff aspirations

Came here to post this. I like it. Cullen looked good with Alfie and Spezza the past game. Foligno-Fisher-Kovie has potential and you know what to expect from the Kelly line.

I like the looks of the fourth line, Shannon hasn't done much of anything lately. I've been wanting him scratched for a while now.

Judging by line combos at the morning skate, appears Shannon will come out for Z. Smith #nhl #sens

It does, which is what I like about Murray. Willing to go on a run, acquire some depth, without giving up our future. He's done it in the past as well.

I don't want a conservative GM who puts all his eggs in one basket.

Also what message would Murray send to this team, who had an 11 game win streak just before the deadline, if he didn't go out and get some help.

5-2 Habs win.

At least if we were playing decent hockey the outlook would be positive. At this point, unless we can win a few convincingly, we even look like the Thrashers could take us out. The THRASHERS!

I think there's more to it than just winning that drove Murray to make the moves. Melnyk probably wants playoff revenue, and the franchise must be a bit worried about how this fickle fanbase would respond to missing the playoffs 2 consecutive seasons.

When is the last time you saw a Sens flag on a car?

Shannon-regin-kovalev? Yes Shannon has been invisible and so has regin, but that's because they haven't had this line together for a couple weeks. Is there something Clouston doesn't like about it? It seemed to be the best use of those 3 guys by far. Now shannon is a scratch, Regin is on the 4th and Kovalev plays like a 70 yr old.
Am i missing something here? anyone?

I don't remember that line ever being good or even being together for more than a couple games? I don't recall clearly.

Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev was a very good line up until Foligno got injured. They were together for almost 2 months from December to January. They even played in the last minute of games with a one goal lead.

Kovalev's most common linemates:

16.58% Fisher and Shannon
16.53% Fisher and Foligno
15.62% Regin and Shannon

That ends up being about 10-12 games with each configuration.

Yikes. Shows how much I know... I remember the first two combos clearly.

No Bergeron or Calamari for Montreal tonight. Halak starting.

Is it weird that I'm more relieved to see Bergeron out? It feels like he's killed us this year.

One goal, one assist and a minus 3. He killed us in the one game they beat us where the Sens were stonewalled by Halak. Made a few nice rushes.

That's a little scary. It's been one of our better lines this year. Fol-fish-kov doesn't work well imo and makes shannon and regin expendable. It's definitely not making best use of our players. don't get cory on this one.
Watch him put Michalek right back on the 1st line when he gets back too.
Might as well add too, that i'm a little surprised alfie hasn't been put back with fisher while the two of them have gone cold.

Curious where you got those percentages. Did you calculate yourself or is there a site you pulled them from? i would be interested in seeing that site if there is one.

Thanks moz

It is a bit scary now that I look at some past boxscores.

I think the coach figures since Shannon, Regin, and Kovalev have a combined zero points and a minus bazillion since the Olympics, that putting them together again will not solve their problems. Sounds fair.
