Would Chicago get rid of Madden? And would San Jose give up Malhotra?

I'd love to see those guys here.

Bertuzzi also, but Dett likes him I believe.

Like that's any better. We still have Boucher and likely no decent goalie.

I AGREE!!! Sign some cheap vet, saves cap space and gets us some talent.

That in itself is a major issue. If they still can't make the playoffs, and we say "Well, Carter got hurt" this was never a Cup contender to start with, and that was the only acceptable expectation.
This is bang on.

Holmgren tried hitting a home run in July and had complete tunnel vision when he made the move for Pronger. This team was more than just a Chris Pronger away from a Stanley Cup. Holmgren forgot to factor in injuries and forgot to factor in that depth from the farm would be required.

Holmgren has screwed this franchise with the handling of the salary cap, with the way he has continually pissed away draft picks, and now there's zero depth when the team needs it most.

And to listen to people say "well, we're still in a playoff spot", that's not good enough. This was supposed to be a Stanley Cup contending team. That's what everyone was sold on by Holmgren. Finishing in 7th or 8th is not acceptable and no Stanley Cup winner has ever been a 7th or 8th seed.

Even if Snider doesn't get it, you'd figure Peter Lukko does and that he'd want someone else in there to correct this mess.

none of this would be a big deal if Gagne, Giroux, JVR, Briere, Hartnell were putting up points like they should. Flyers top 6 sucks balls plain and simple, they play sloppy and soft.

Gagne has 17 pts in the last 20 games.

Win.

You can complain about Gagne having been injured, but he has been good for us since he came back. It took him a while to round into form offensively, but in his first 12 games back he was solid, then slumped but still played well defensively. And since the Olympic break, he has been on fire.

I'd gladly take some of your top 6 for some of our top 6. Gagne, Giroux and as much as I hate to admit Hartnell, "not playing well" in your eyes, would be excellent for another team (cough).

I mentioned a few months ago that i didnt think this roster was good enough for even a deep playoff run. I got many negative responses. Yet here we are, at the end of the season fighting for our playoff lives. With questionable goaltending, a inconsistant offense and 2 defenseman we can depend on every night.
This goes beyond Emery getting hurt, then Leighton. This team as constructed is not good enough for a deep playoff push even with Emery in goal.
I didnt like the way this team was built earlier this season and I still dont like it.
But we all know what will happen. This team may miss the playoffs, or get ko's badly in round 1, and Holmgren will get the free pass from Snider because of the "bad luck" and injuries. Holmgren has been able to fool all but one person this season. Too bad that person has the power to send him out on his ass where he belongs.

Koivu would be good for 50 points on this team, I think.

I would love to get him. But you think he would want 3rd line minutes at probably far less then what hes used to making?

The fact that we were struggling for the 5th and 6th spots in the weak all season even with goalies like Leighton, Boucher, and Emery (for the most part) exceeding everyone's expectations made this season a disappointment already.

If anything maybe this will put some pressure on the rest of our seemingly stacked top 6 and get them going a little bit. Although to be fair most of the time it seems like we're creating plenty of chances, we are just one of the worst finishing teams I've ever seen.

Could someone like Kyle Wellwood, Craig Conroy or even Mark Recchi if he doesn't retire be a good fit next year?

He is going to sign with the best team, I think. He's old and wants a Cup. And he probably doesn't want to be a division rival to his brother.

i think he would be the perfect 3rd liner for us. I just dont know if we could make it work unless Hartnell or Briere are gone.

We need to move one of them in the summer for probably anything to be upgraded.

Which is why Holmgren needs to be fired because when it comes right down to it I dont think he would ask any player he gave a NMC or NTC to waive it.

The fact Hartnell has that in his contract sickens me. Thats terrible management. WTF does that guy even bring to the line up every night?

I have no idea who we'd place as our new GM if he got fired.

Last year he brought 30 goals combined with size and nastiness around the net. This year I'd say he brings close to nothing, except the occasional embarrassment. The truth going forward probably lies somewhere in between these extremes, but is not worth what he's paid.

The guy has lived up to his contract once since he got paid. He has degressed since Laviolette got here and is not a good fit for his system.
No idea who replaces Holmgren if he is fired. Not sure what the candidate list looks like.

He is having personal issues and doesn't have the mind to separate them from the ice.

I'm consistently surprised when he shows up with his skates on the correct feet.

And it's not like he isn't getting shafted when playing -- the guy's shooting around 8%, about 3% lower than your average NHLer and about 5% lower than players like him. His shooting percentage as a Flyer is something right around 14...maybe 13.9 or so.

Does anyone have enough information to elaborate on these personal problems of his? I'm just curious because I've seen it floated around the past couple weeks but nothing other than saying he's having off-ice issues.
