Ryan Kesler signed - Plek to have same salary ?

I've just heard that Ryan Kesler signed a 6 years deal with the Canucks..

Contrat details : 5M per (cap hit)

Do you think Plekanec should have the same salary ?

I'm sure it be similiar money even though they're very different types of players.

Waiting for contrat details...

But do you think Plekanec should have the same salary ?
Well, two things:
1) Kesler was RFA, not UFA. Although this deal cuts well into UFA years.
2) I'd rather have Kesler on my team than Plekanec.

So I don't know. I suspect that when I hear the numbers I would be very happy if Plekanec was signed to the same contract. But there isn't a real-world correlation to anticipate.

They are very comparable but I can't believe Kesler would sign that deal now and ruin his playoffs for his team, what a selfish bast...

They are very alike,I hope it's a good cap hit so we could extend Pleks the same way the Nucks just did with Kesler

I would think Pleks would cost a 0.5 to 1 million less than Kesler. Kesler is the better player.

Contract extensions kick in after the current contract is complete

I think Kesler might be a little shorter on offense than Pleks, but much longer on the physical / grit side. They're probably pretty close. I might give Kesler 0.5 to 1 million more than Pleks.

I wouldn't have too much trouble forking over $4.5 to Pleks over 6 seasons...

I was curious about the cap hit (Kesler and Plekanec ~ "comparable worth" imo) but I only found - theprovince.com - "... Terms of the deal were not released. .. More later. Kesler will be addressing the media following the Canucks' practice later this morning."

Let’s keep in mind: as mentioned by Blind Gardien "... Kesler was RFA, not UFA. Although this deal cuts well into UFA years..."

I wouldn't say Kesler is more offensively skilled. He can just throw them down with the best of them though.

Kesler is about $4.92/yr for 6yrs
4.5/yr max for pleks as far as I am concerned

That's great, because it's gonna give Gauthier some pull in the negotiations with Pleks. I think he's gonna sign for 4.5-5M, not more. Pleks wants to stay here, Gauthier wants him to stay...git 'er done!

I think I'm in the minority thinking that $6M is too much for Plekanec. I'd like him to stay for years but I hope his cap is limited to $5M or less.

Well it should, but Rick Curran is a wily bast***. Personally, Kesler is an example of a player who's progressed every year. Plekanec is coming off a bad year--if Gauthier has any leverage, its working off of that performance.

Seriously though, there's absolutely no reason, when you consider consistency of performance, that Plekanec should get more money than Kesler.

Pleks isn't as good as Kesler, but at the same time Pleks was entering UFA. Hard to say what effect this may have.

Thanks for the link. So... Plekanec => 8-10 years with a 4,25-4,5M$ cap hit?

Edit:

True but 25 years old Kesler did "sacrifice" 3-4 UFA years with that 6 years deal.

I think Plekanec will re-sign with us at 4.5-5 million, somewhere around the Ryan Kesler term. Hopefully we can lock up Pleks for the same amount of years as well.

I think the Kesler deals really sets a ceiling for Plex now. I don't think he'll get more then Kesler and I can't imagine him expecting more. Kesler is a picture of consistency and more rugged player. Plex has more points but is older and has admitedly struggled come playoff time.

I think Plex should get close to his type of money as like Kesler, he's the teams #2 centreman (at least salary wise).
