I'm not sure I'm sold. I think he fits into the Grabovski mold of players and may never be as good on NHL ice as Grabovski.

damn, watching that vid, I think I like this kid.

Seems to be a very gritty little guy, and with a big strong base/trunk like St.Louis has, with plenty of speed and skill. And MVP of the SEL at age 22 is a big deal.

With the unimpressive group of college UFA guys avilable this year, this guy might be the best guy to sign.

I think I can say confidently that Grabovski would never win MVP of the SEL, not now, and definitely not at age 22.

Thats true. I mean, I'd rather take this guy than a small College Free Agent like Chase Polacek(sp)

He's quick, but it's hard to tell exactly how quick from watching the slow tempo SEL and the big rinks. He didn't look slow in the Olympics though, or the World Champs last year either (which were also played on small rinks).

As for Brunnström.. I still think he has/had ridiculous offensive potential. But yeah who knows exactly what was best for him, I tend to think that the SEL, while slow and unphysical, helps players to develop a special kind of smarts and cool temperament which isn't a bad thing to have even on the very different North American rinks. Maybe he needs to get out of Dallas too.

GordieHowHatTrick:
I completely disagree about that. Not much like Grabovski at all.

I'd say Grabo would excel offensively in the SEL...

at last year's World Championship he ripped it up

Based on what i've seen from MZA in YT clips and at the olympics, His vision and hockey sense are miles better than grabo's.

Which isn't hard to beat, Grabo is Berezin pt.2. I like this kid, his size doesn't project to be much of a problem from the looks of it. He'll never dominate the NHL, not even close, but I'd be up for a giving him a fair shake at 2nd line duties. Within a couple years, the right training regimen, some extra protein, and heavy weight lifting duties, the 22 year old could put on a good 15-20 lbs of muscle.

But taking a look at the pic above the youtube clip, he looks quite ripped already so he probably has a great work ethic already, which is great to see.

haha. i actually don't mind pierre. sometimes he's too much...but for the most part i find him pretty damn entertaining.

i can see why so many people don't like him i guess...but i think he gets hated on way too much.

I really enjoyed his performance at the olympics. Can you imagine him and Kessel buzzing around the ice?! Hope Burkie makes this happen.

when you take his size and the large ice surface, that video makes him look like a 12 yr old. Doesnt mean leafs shouldnt try to sign him though. theres nothing to loose with free agents like this - if they dont pan out give em to the marlies....not like the leafs have a shortage of funds to take risks with. So what if we end up with the highest paid AHL team?

Just imho of course, but his hockey sense is excellent. No tunnel vision there.

Yeah Great...this guy would be absolutely killed in the NHL...why do we always have to go after these "project" type players. 160lbs? Id hate to see what happens to him when a behemoth like Pronger or Chara pastes him.....will he ever get up again? Fabian Brunstrom was highly sought after by about 20 teams....where is he again?

When you shop from the clearance bin you might find the odd "good deal" but mostly you throw the crap back.

this might be true...but the leafs are in no position to be picky.

going after guys like this is really a win-win situation....

they work out, great. they don't, whatever.
