They could probably win out and still pick in the top 10. The West is just far, far superior this year.

I'm getting the feeling Ruutu has a big game.

Don't think he's out of the equation for next season for a second. Crazier things have happened.

Who will win the epic battle on my television. The Canes or Lost? It's the battle of which of these programs has dissapointed me the least this season. Sadly, I don't know the answer to that question.

You forgot the +18, +13, and +17 ratings. But he can't play defense. And all those goals show he can't hit the net. Also, he is a locker room cancer and sacrifices small puppies and kittens in his free time.

Pretty sure that's just Wallin. They never did tell us what he did to 'bless' Gleason's stick in the playoffs.

San Jose is on a six-game losing streak. Wallin plays for San Jose. Coincidence?

No, that's Ruutu. Easy to confuse him with Wallin, as both can't skate and are wildly overpaid.

BTW, I heard a rumor that Joe Corvo is a top-pairing shut-down defenseman. Is this true?

He's been out of the equation since he went back. JR's a vengeful dude, and Babs has slighted him twice (regardless of who's fault it was). And even if JR offered him a contract (in some bizarro world), I don't believe Babs would take him up on the offer.

That bridge has been burned and its ashes....ahem....blessed.

It is an interesting question. Babchuk turns 27 in May 2011. Is it better to bury the hatchet for one more year in Carolina and use the season as an audition (and likely get dealt at the deadline) or play another year in Omsk and see how his KHL stats are valued after another season. I don't know which he would prefer. He left Russia after a year to return to Carolina before; he might do so again.

Yeah, if Dave gets to further the conversation of Anton Babchuk, then we should be allowed to kick start any dead horse we wish.

Babchuk would be a #1 defenseman on every team in the league. Except Washington, because they have Corvo.

If...

- The Devils beat the BJs (probably)
- The Leafs beat the Panthers (probably)
- The Canes beat the Lightning (hopefully)

... we will be 1 point off the Rangers, and in the 8th draft slot.

Agreed. I just don't see JR bringing him back after all that's happened, from both sides.

I do see him as trade bait at the draft though. Some team will be willing to take a chance on him.

Shows you how absolutely atrocious the East is. Despite currently being the 8th seed, Boston isn't far off from having two top 10 picks.

Yeah, JR even mentioned him in a fairly recent interview. I suspect there's a pretty good chance we get him back.

The better question is, if JR did bring him back, how would he play here? If he came back to play for the Canes, it'd be similar to the Ward situation this year, where he's playing for other teams rather than the team he's on.

If teams were interested in him in this past offseason (and apparently there were), there's no reason they still shouldn't be interested. And if they are still interested, then he's got no reason to return here and audition. He could put up similar stats with the KHL for another year then take offers when he's a FA.

Babchuk at 50% effort is still the best player in the league.
