Cogliano + 31 overall pick to Anaheim for 16th overall

Andrew Cogliano is obviously a solid NHL player by now, but i really feel like this Jack Campbell kid could become a star goalie in this league and kinda reminds me of Bill Ranford.

Anaheim could sure use the secondary scoring Cogliano brings and can replace an aging Sakku Koivu with him. Meanwhile we get a goalie who has a bright future and has won gold at the WJC for the USA... Thoughts?

I dont know if id use a first round pick on a goalie specially with how much uncertainty that surrounds the 2 goalies we have.

So we can draft another Alex Plante? No thanks. Moving up 15 spots isn't worth Cogliano unless it gets you into the 5-7 range

I don't think that works for us.

How about switching Cogliano with Moreau?

cogliano is going to be a gd 2nd/3rd liner for us into the future, even if you could get a 16th straight up for him it wouldnt be worth the risk. Straight up for a lower pick would be more enticing for sure

I would do this for a top-ten pick, but not 16th.

So we give up a servicable NHLer and the 31st to get a 16?

Why? So we get the shot at somebody who might have the long term potential Cogliano has but 5 years behind in development.

Getting even younger with more prosepct depth doesn't make us better

It does if you make the right pick.

Now I am not endorsing the trade, I don't like it however I have no problem with getting even younger and trading up if we truly think the guy on the board at the time is worth it.

Like others, I'd do this only if we were able to move up into the top 6-7. Walking away from this draft with Hall + Kabanov would be an incredible boost to the rebuild, much more so than keeping Cogliano + 31st.

No more drafting goalies with first rounders. They take too long to develop and then waivers end up screwing you around.

I am 100% in agreeance with getting Jack Campbell in the first round, I've been pitching that idea too

he is going to be much better than JDD or Dubynk. And the best part is, he'll be quite a few years out so it gives us time to run this awful Khabi contract out the door.

Ideally, 3 1st round picks would be nice this year, be interesting to see what happens though... love draft day!! its way more exciting then trade deadline day

EDIT: just wanted to state that I'm not endorsing cogliano be traded for picking of jack campbell, just stating i'd like to draft him and would consider options if i could get him

10 points in the last 12 games. Now that he's seeing some proper linemates, I wonder just how good he could do. I'm perfectly fine with not trading him, actually.

I would rather deal Gagner+ and get in the top 2.

I would prefer a team with Gagner and Seguin instead of Hall and Seguin in 3 years.

Drafting goalies is a crap shoot at the best of times, so burning a first rounder on one is crazy. Giving up an actual NHL player and a very high second round pick to do so in clinically insane.

Yeah, toss away all those years developing Ganger for a player who may or may not turn out to be better than him in a few years time. Cool asset management bro.

In a different draft year maybe this is considered, but I think after the top 3 this draft could be a real guessing game as far as who goes where. I think someone #10 on one team's board could be #30 on another's board. For that reason, as someone else mentioned, anything short of moving up into the top 3 with another pick wouldn't make sense... and I don't see any team moving out of that pick.

Does Cogs fit the long-term future of this team? Debateable. If he is to be moved I'd prefer getting another pick for him than a package that just sees us move up. Maybe for FLA's 2nd?

Far too risky to take a goalie in the first round these days unless the draft is REALLY weak and/or you love a goalie and he is a clear-cut first round pick (aka Fleury)...the fail rate on first round goalies is just way too high, then add into the mix the chance you could get a great goalie in rounds 4-7...just not a good idea

plus with the good chance guys like Kabanov, Kuznetsov, etc. fall into the last half of the first round i would rather package picks in the 3rd round or maybe nashville's to move up to like 22-26 and grab a guy like that

I would love to see them move up in the draft for an additional 1st but unless they can get into a position to draft Nino I don't care what they do. He's the only player I would love to see in the Oilers system outside of Hall/Seguin.

Are you from New Zealand? Kiwi's are the only ones I know that use that term regularly instead of agreement.

Personally I think Cogs is better than anyone we could expect to get at 16. Picks after 5 or so a pretty much a crap shoot. So we'd be dealing a guy with a lot of promise for a guy that's a big question mark.

Cogliano's been awesome when he's had some normal linemates for him. The Oilers are showing how badly they misused him this season since they put him with Brule and Penner.. I doubt Cogliano gets traded.
