VS.
Division + Conference Standings
Central Division:

Western Conference:

Overview
Extra Information[COLOR="Red"]Detroit Red Wings forward Dan Cleary will return to the lineup tonight against the St. Louis Blues at Joe Louis Arena, after missing two games with a pulled groin.

Forward Patrick Eaves (sore neck, back) skated but will miss his third consecutive game. He is hoping to play Friday against Minnesota.

Cleary will play on the third line, with Drew Miller and Jason Williams. Derek Meech fills in for Eaves on the fourth line with Darren Helm and Kris Draper. The top two lines remain the same: Johan Franzen-Pavel Datsyuk-Tomas Holmstrom, and Todd Bertuzzi-Henrik Zetterberg-Valtteri Filppula.

The defense stays the same for the fourth consecutive game: Nicklas Lidstrom-Brian Rafalski, Niklas Kronwall-Brad Stuart, Jonathan Ericsson-Andreas Lilja.

Brett Lebda is a healthy scratch. He dressed the last two games as the seventh defenseman but did not get any ice time.

Lebda said he was a little surprised he didn't get any shifts, but added, "That's the game we played. We got two points in both of them, so I can't really say much about it.

"We had injuries, we had another body, we dressed eight (defensemen), shortened the bench a little bit, but the important thing is we got the two points in both games.''

Babcock said it was nothing against Lebda, he just preferred to use a regular six-man rotation on defense.

The Red Wings, in eighth place in the Western Conference with 85 points, lead Calgary by two points and are just two points behind No. 7 Colorado, which hosts Los Angeles tonight. The Kings and Nashville are tied for fifth with 89 points.

The Blues trail the Red Wings by eight points but have fared well against them this season, gaining nine of a possible 10 points (4-0-1).

"They (St. Louis) are the best team in the road in the Western Conference (22-11-4, conference-best 48 points),'' Babcock said. "They've been real hard on us anyway. They swept us in Sweden to get the year started.''

The Blues are 9-4 in their last 13 games. This amounts to a must-win game for them. Even if they are able to cut the Red Wings' lead to six points, that's still a signicant deficit to overcome with only nine games remaining for both teams after tonight.

St. Louis hopes hitting the road will help. The Blues are an NHL-worst 12-18-5 at home, but their 22-11-4 road record is the second-best in the league. They’ve won six of eight away from home since the Olympics.
Go Wings!!!

I was able to watch the game agains the Pens, something that doesnt happen too often nowadays.

I am glad that the 2nd line is intact, as they were the best for in that game. Helm belongs in the 3rd line though (at least), so I hope it doesnt mean he will get less minutes now with cleary back. Judging from the last game, Helm is really lightning fast, though a bit weak when caught in traffic.

Geez at all the 1st rounders the Blues have on the roster...

Wings win this one 3-2. Backes will get a goal for the Blues... seems like he does a lot. And Kariya too.

I just watched 20 minutes of Stevies highlights on youtube. He was the reason I got interested in hockey back in 94. Those were the days...

And yet both their goalies were undrafted...

I dunno, I'm not really jealous of anyone on that roster except Berglund and Erik Johnson. Maybe Petrangelo someday. Otherwise that's the All-Meh 1st Round Team.

I think the Wings were going to take Berglund but the Blues snaked in front and took him first.

With our form, we should be able to get a win. But for some reason we **** balls against the Blues. Our third line is just absolutely brutal right now. Cleary is out of form and I hope he goes into clutch mode for the playoffs if we make it. J. Will is the epitome of useless. Miller has been our best waiver acquisition and looks really good, but I would like some more point production from him. He gets some important goals and plays but we need all lines firing for the playoffs. I actually can't believe I'm saying this, but Maltby might actually have a spot/role for the playoffs.

Good luck Red Wings! Blues is lame, rock is the best (I know, lame, couldn't think of anything else.)

I think their confidence level is too high to lose to St. Louis at home right now. Of course anything could happen, but I predict a win...and hopefully a soild game from our 3rd line with Cleary playing with Miller and Williams.

He's been lights out on the road this year and won at NYR and NJD his last two starts. Probably just going with the hot hand. Mason has also been a little shaky as of late.

That and cause he is in the spotlight to actually do something. I'm pretty sure he was brought in as a Samuelsson or Hudler replacement and he's just been a huge disappointment. There is no way in hell he makes it another year here.

It'd be awesome to get a win here. Put some distance back between the Wings and the Flames and tie up the Avs if they lose and draw closer to the Preds. Lots at stake tonight!
