I couldn't agree more,

He played wing at the Worlds last year and was fantastic....a think Grabo playing LW would only be benifical to his game.

Does nobody remember that ridiculous experiment from last year? Grabo was terrible on the wing on NHL ice. He needs the space that you get while playing centre to be effective.

I would say Grabo is a perfect fit for a team like the Oilers ( who are looking for a stop gap while rebuilding) or for a team that could use some excitement (calgary, minnesota, dallas) to keep the fan base energized. I love Grabo but I think his time in the blue and white is done unless he becomes an Argo.

Grabovski is not exactly going to entice anyone to give you a better top 6 player.

Grabovksi would nothing more than a throw in imo. His contract isn't horrible but it will turn teams away from him.

I don't think the Oilers need Grabo at all. He would be playing behind Horcoff and Gagner and with young talent like Eberle and MSP, they should have enough excitement.

Grabs for Briere. Leafs get better. Flyers get cheaper.

That's the worst thing we could do. Leafs should be investing there cap towards something else. Plus Grabovski needs to be traded for picks or prospects to free 2.9 million.

just posted this in another thread. kind of goes right with what the OP is saying.

to PHX:
C mikhail grabovski ($2.9mil, 25 years old)

to TOR:
martin hanzal (RFA, 22 years old)

phoenix gets a replacement for lombardi's offense, while toronto gets a defensive 3rd line C.

hanzal would likely sign for half of grabovski's salary, which helps the leafs save $$ and also helps to coyotes add $$ to reach the cap floor.

while he is a young and solid defensive C, they still have prucha and fiddler, who are both young and similar defensive C's like hanzal.

Grabovski is 26, do we think he really has much more upside than he's showing today?

I'm not sure he has much value in any trade, and might even be considered a salary dump. Not as bad as Blake, but he has a long way to go to prove he's the answer to any question.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

if i'm burke, i wouldn't be selling him on his upside, though i do think he could produce more offensively than he has so far. you have to remember that this is only his 2nd year in the NHL, and he already has a 20 goal season under his belt.

$2.9mil for a 26 year old 3rd year 20 goal/50-ish point player is far from a "salary dump"...

if you compare his production to his $$, and then compare it to other players around the league, it's not that bad.

like i said, this trade is more based on need than anything.

the question isn't how much offensive upside grabovski has...but how much offensive upside the coyotes believe hanzal has...because if they feel he can be a 20g/50pt player next season, than there is no point to the trade...but right now hanzal is a 10g/30pt defensive guy...and they currently have 3 players just like that...while they have a total of ZERO offensive minded C's signed for next season with very little to choose from in free agency.

i'm not going to make it sound like hanzal is a scrub though because he isn't. the coyotes are the only team i follow as hard as the leafs and hanzal has played a big role on that team...but they will definitely need some offensive minded players next year imo.

not sure if they would even have any interest in grabovski...but if the leafs had to throw in a prospect like oreskovic, i would still do it for sure. i really like hanzal's game and size (but i'm sure phoenix does too).

I'd easily send Grabovski and Big Phil for Hanzal.

Now all we have to do is arrange for me to take the GM's job in Phoenix.

Hey, maybe they'd expect a Stempniak type of reversal for Grabovski and offer it up?

i would even do grabovski for prucha probably.

nikolai kulemin - tyler bozak - phil kessel
viktor stalberg - nazem kadri - trade return (schenn or kaberle)
fredrik sjostrom - petr prucha - mike grier (ufa)
eric nystrom (ufa) - ryan johnson (ufa) - colton orr
hanson/caputi/mitchell

if our PK isn't top ten 15-20 games into next season with this lineup, wilson should be canned immediately.

I would have to agree. I think Briere's cap hit is double with not that much more production.
The guy has been hurt for a good chunk of the year, team has been in a lot of turmoil. Let them play another half a year and see where they end up.

what was with the team reaction to Grabo last night? I guess cause he's been kept off teh score sheet?

Was great to see the team giving him a hard time and he responding positively to it. For a payer with a history of chemistry issues was great to see
