Yzerman: Dissapointed to not have been considered

From Martin Leclerc at Rue Frontenac who's working on a sports TV series says that Yzerman was really dissapointed to not have been contacted by Boivin for the GM job. Leclerc says that Yzerman would have been REALLY interested based on the fact that Yzerman is looking at 2 things for his next assignment: Working in a Canadian city and/or working in a big market. Needless to say he would have had those 2 things in Montreal.

Now, this is NOT a Gauthier bashing thread. Not the idea behind it. But what do you think about it? What do you think about how Boivin approached the Gainey's replacement and would you have liked to have Yzerman instead even if we are still talking about a much less experienced guy than what Gauthier represents.

P.S. I didn't make this thread because we loss 2 games in a row....but that article just came out this morning and I personnally never though that a guy like Yzerman would not only liked to be considered but was actually dissapointed to not have had the call....

It's hard to evaluate Yzerman as a GM based on his experience.

That's like giving a plumber the absolute best set of tools that's ever been assembled, and then comparing his product to other plumbers with lower quality tools.

I'm not saying he would have been a bad option, I'm just saying it's impossible to tell what sort of option he would have been.

better then Mcguire but
sometimes i prefer transitional change, rather then a more radical change.

He has zero experience, so whatever. Just because he was a great player doesn't mean he'd be great in the managing aspect of the game.

Yzerman has spent the past 5 years being groomed to take over for Ken Holland. I'd say that's more than zero experience.

He could've been a godsent or he could've been another Houle. He's never been a GM for a NHL team, we don't know how well he'd do. Being GM for team Canada only requires him to choose a team in a long list of incredibly talented players. To be a GM for a team, you need to be able to negociate contracts, keep the team balanced and competing for long term, not just for 2 weeks.

I wouldn't have complained if he was chosen to be GM but I wouldn't say that I want him over someone else because I don't really know how well he'd do.

He doesn't speak French, which is why Boivin didn't even consider him. However, he considered Bykov (apparently) since he learned French while playing in Switzerland. He probably would have been the coach, but he doesn't know English.

Pierre Boivin needs to go.

Maybe the Habs didn't think for a second that Yzerman would be interested in leaving Detroit.

I'm not sure why the Yzerman hype. Anyone here could have picked Team Canada, and he hasn't any real experience to be given the job in Montreal. I mean, look at what #99 did with Phoenix, your on-ice success means very little in this league.

Hmm honestly don't know what to think about that. No surprise he wasn't considered, Boivin made that clear in the PC, but we won't know whether this was a mistake or not until he becomes GM somewhere else.

Which is absolutely ridiculous.

Even though I don't agree with it, I can kind of understand why people would want the coach to be bilingual. But the GM? Who gives a ****?

I don't mind that Yzerman has little experience. I am confident he would of surrounded himself with experienced personnel.

They could have at least announced that the search for a GM was on. Then, you'd see people knocking down doors to try and get the job.

But instead, they kept the secret tight within a elite circle. Heck, even JM didn't know what was going on.

One year, Habs officed looked like this ;

General Manager : Bob Gainey
Head Coach : Guy Carbonneau
Assistant Coach : Kirk Muller

All had cup rings, all were winners. It didn't get us anywhere.

Extremely surprising to say the least. Seems he's Holland's apprentice right now so he would of known what he was doing. Whatever, Gauthier is doing alright so far.
