Torts is Machiavellian. We didnt bring him in here to be loved, we brought him in to kick our players in the ass, if you all recall.

Players that have responded positively to Tortorella; Callahan, Dubinsky, Christensen.

Players that have responded negatively; Redden, Drury, Jokinen, Anisimov.

ESPN couldn't get more players to participate in the poll?

50 players is a little more than 2 teams, that's not a big enough sample size at all. It's a good idea, but it makes the results misleading as they are in no way an accurate representation of what most players in the league think.

I got all excited when I saw that Luongo was the most overrated until I saw that only 3 players voted for him. Meh.

one time he was a coach that won a cup in Tampa and he needs to be given credit for this, But Torts also is a guy that lots of ex players don't like and from what I can tell it must be his personality. Torts was a asst coach in Buffalo when he was suspended for punching a heckling fan. Many players there were upset over the fact the coaching staff would always preach control and discipline on the ice and the coach ends up getting in trouble with the owners and league for hitting a fan. Ten seasons later Torts is again in trouble with the league for throwing a bottle at them. Guess he didn't learn a lesson he asks his players to learn. never lose control. Fast word to the Andre Roy incident where Torts publicly destroyed his career after a game in Philadelphia. Tort is known for being a hard ass and bully and here is a point in the coaches favor. Players today are spoiled brats and pampered beyond belief. Torts in the 80's and 90's might have been better excepted then his today. He coached Vinny down in TB and his quoted as saying he never wanted to play for torts again. The mere fact he chooses to lose his temper time after time in press conferences shows he is a lose cannon. Torts is Torts some love him some hate him but from this poll not many want his as their coach

Good, the lazy players who don't want to work at practice or can't take a tongue lashing from the coach don't like him.

So thankfully Torts is our coach so we dont attract those types. Hence why Naslund retired a year early.

Flyers fans must be proud, they won by a longshot .

We're definitely losing our touch. I bet 15-20 years ago the Rangers would have been closer or higher than the Flyers.

I think it's about time we go back to burning Islanders jerseys and dropping beer on people's heads.

Avery overarated at 1.95 mil/per (our half), as opposed to all the other guys who are at least 6.5 mil/per ++.
Luongo's hit goes down to 5.3+ next year.

This means 9 of the 50 voted for Torts.

That's probably how we ended up with losers like Kotalik and Brashear... No one else wanted to play for Torts.

errr...just heard Lecavalier interviewed on XM last week...and he had nothing but good things to say about Torts. Also stated how Torts is somewhat responsible for making him the player he is today. He said Torts over a period of a few years managed to teach him how to bring up his intensity to another level required for the Stanley Cup run of 2004. Do you know Lecavalier personally to be calling him by his first name? just curious.

No surprise there. Players want to play for a players coach. They like the country club atmosphere. Relax kind of do what you want type of place.
And those 3 coaches are the opposite of that.

Ha ha @ worst visitors locker room. No doubt MSG NEEDS some upgrading.
Wouldn't surprise me either if the Rangers had one of the worst Home locker rooms.

Exactly. If some of you younger fellas were at MSG say 30-40 years ago you would crap in your pants at the intimidation exuded and vile contempt we had for opposing teams.

Especially the Flyers, Isles and Boston. It was a special thing to experience.

The corporate seating factor aside (which has always been a factor in NYC by the way), the Ranger fans in attendance wouldn't be as mild tempered as they have been in recent years if it wasn't for the fact that team that has been iced since 1994 has been marginal at best.

Well Avery isn't very well liked around the league which is probably why he made the overrated list. Which shows me he is a great agitator because he made the overrated list with a bunch of star players.

Torts is a tough coach so I am not surprised players dont want to play for him. In the longrun he will make players like Dubinsky, Callahan, Anisimov etc better hockey players.

The fact that we made the list even though the management of the franchise is a disaster and that we are likely a non-playoff team is a testament to how great the city is, how well the players are treated (on a personal level), the Original Six cachet of the team, and to the fact that we pay top dollar for players.

Imagine if we had competent management? Players would be beating down our doors wanting to come here.
Hi alkurtz, that was me who asked that question. My concern was Heikkinen, Brashear, and Kotalik all publicly stating their dissatisfaction. Before posters get into the "who cares what those stiffs, think" argument. I agree. However, with this management, we may not have to worry about bad signings as I think playing for Tortorella and the current regime will deter potential free agents.

I am relieved that playing for the Rangers is still desirable but concerned with the management.

After some of the recent UFA's signings I don't think this is such a bad thing

Players are freaking come to NY now to enjoy the city and nightlife it seems, not to try and help this team become better.

Do you watch hockey games or read things about the game? Pierre McGuire is the guy who told the story on how Vinny did not like playing for Torts and how he did not want to be traded to a Torts coached team. Now why in the world so you have a issue with me ? Do i even know you? grow up
