It was a spear, but he didn't had hit Kennedy balls never, cause his motion was direct and how you can touch someone in the balls with a jackstrap on without have to pull a hook up. I would have called a 2 or only a 5. It was about the same http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLx42lPD8Mw but with less force and in movement. Kennedy went to the ground like he was hit by a Chara Slapper right in the face.

The only reason why players dive is because the poor officiating in this league rewards them for it. That call ended the game.

The team is depleted by injuries, and captain Vinny Lecavalier took what coach Rick Tocchet called an "undisciplined, stupid" spearing penalty that got him tossed from the game and cost Tampa Bay two goals.
Quote:
Marty St. Louis said that did not excuse a general lack of urgency. "I don't think we came ready to play," he said. "From the get-go you could tell we were trying to feel our way through instead of initiating, dictating. You do that against a team like that and night-night."
Quote:
"It's tough," Lecavalier said. "I put the boys in a bad spot, that's for sure."

Lecavalier admitted he took a "bad penalty," retaliating for an elbow in the back of the head. He also said he simply jabbed Kennedy in the stomach, though Kennedy sold it as if he had been stabbed. Lecavalier said he believed he deserved only a two-minute penalty. "(The referee) saw it as a five, and that kind of changed the game," he said. "I don't think it was the right call."

But NHL rules 62.3 and 62.5 say a major penalty and a game misconduct are mandatory with spearing.
Quote:
"It's on me," Tocchet said. "I'm obviously not doing a good-enough job if they're not competing. … We're in critical games. You have to take a punch in the mouth. You have to block shots. You've got to backcheck like it's your last shift of the season. You have to go to the net like it's your last shift of the season. Our defense has to box people out like it's the last shift of the season.

"It's embarrassing some guys packed it in."

I changed channels after the 5th goal....it was too painful to watch.

Interesting comments by the coach....intuitively I think he knows that his days are numbered!

Not good but not awful either. Hard to say since everyone was playing bad. His decision making was definitely a problem for him.

For me though, the biggest thing is did he improve his game and develop a bit more since the last time we saw him about a year ago. I think that's more important than him playing well or not. Unfortunately I didn't see much of a difference from this game to his last nhl game.

90 minutes watching, in gruesome detail, a replay of the first two periods of the nightmare in Buffalo

40 minutes in hockey purgatory as coach Rick Tocchet skated them almost nonstop and almost exclusively without pucks to atone for, and cleanse themselves of, Saturday's 7-1 loss to Buffalo
