Detroit Is On Fire

Looks like they finally got all their people back, healthy, and they are kicking ass!

I can see them moving all the way up to fifth, if they keep playing this way. The first four places are pretty much a lock, with either Phoenix or San José slated for the four slot.

That is a brutal first round opponent for Phoenix or San José. Then a brutal second round opponent for Chicago or Phoenix or San José (San José will not get past Detroit, period).

The good news is no way will the Kings see these guys until the WCF, if they both get that far.

The bad news is if the Kings continue to play this way, they won't have to worry about who they will face in the second round. And they will make the playoffs, because Calgary is playing just awful right now.

I fully expect Detroit to make some noise in the playoffs. Hell, they're not too different of a roster that almost won the cup last season.

They are the Ducks of this year. I remember nobody wanting the Ducks last year. I think they got the 8 seed and knocked off #1 IIRC.

This really isn't much of a surprise. They were injury-riddled all year and that probably cost them 10-12 points in the standings.

I wouldn't want to face them in the first round, and I think they'll either get matched up with Phoenix or Vancouver, which is fine with me. The Kings chances of getting out of round 1 are all about getting a favorable match-up. That means San Jose, Phoenix, Chicago or Vancouver in that order. (I'd list Colorado as well but that isn't happening the way the standings are shaking out.)

I like the Kings chances with Chicago, Phoenix and San Jose. I wouldn't mind the Kings playing Vancouver, but Luongo scares the hell out of me. Nashville? Yuck.

At the end of the day though, I'll take anyone. Just getting in to the playoffs is what matters. Then you need a bit of match-up luck, a healthy team, a hot 1st and 3rd line and a goalie that gets hot at the right time.

Luckily that won't be a problem for us. The only teams I am afraid of meeting in the playoffs are Gnashville and Vancouver.

A massive collapse by chicago would've occurred for us to see Detroit in the 1st round.

No, I'm on fire.

But yea, they were hurt by injuries earlier in the season, but they are kind of like the Ducks from last year. They'll make a lot of noise in the playoffs.

They could be playing the 84 Edmonton Oilers, just getting into the playoffs is a huge step for the team, for the players and for the long suffering fans. There are a lot of King fans who have never even seen a playoff game it's been so long. I've forgot what it's like to root for a winning hockey team, most of the games I find myself waiting to get mad at something and curse Lombardi and the Kings win going away. It's confusing.

What an absolute ridiculous thing to say. As if LA doesn't have its own reputation. Plenty of good people in Detroit!

Edmonton doesn't suck at home any more.

It was just week ago when Edmonton beat them 3 - 2 SO. Remember that lucky 0.2 s goal by Detroit for OT .
