Overview
Extra InformationDetroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said forward Dan Cleary is “day to day’’ with a pulled groin.

“All the history we have with groin injuries through the years is they just need time,’’ Holland said. “Hopefully we caught it early on in the process and it’s just going to be a few days.’’

Holland said he doesn't believe Cleary has had any tests done (MRI, ultrasound).

Cleary was first injured March 19 in Edmonton. He sat out two games, and in his second game back, Friday against Minnesota, he reaggravated the injury and left in the first period.

The Red Wings do not have the salary cap space to recall anybody from Grand Rapids, barring a long-term injury, which this does not appear to be. Defenseman Derek Meech will continue to fill in at forward when needed.

The Detroit Red Wings will try to win their season-high fifth consecutive game tonight in Nashville (8 p.m., FSN), against a team that is equally as hot.

The Red Wings, 11-2-1 in their last 14 games, have a chance to tie the Predators, 7-1 in their last eight, for fifth place in the Western Conference -- pending the outcomes of Colorado’s game at Phoenix and the Los Angeles-Dallas game.

The only lineup change for the Red Wings sees defenseman Derek Meech take Dan Cleary’s spot at forward on the line with Drew Miller and Jason Williams.

Jimmy Howard will make his 22nd consecutive start in goal. This will be the fifth time Howard has started both games when playing on back-to-back days. He is 2-1-1 in the second game, posting a 2.42 goals-against average and .919 save percentage:

Nov. 12 vs. Vancouver, W 3-1
Jan. 17 vs. Chicago, L 4-3 (SO)
Feb. 3 at Anaheim, L 3-1
March 20 at Vancouver, W 4-3 (OT)

The Red Wings are 3-1 vs. Nashville this season. Howard is 2-0 against the Predators. This will be his first career start in Nashville.

Coach Mike Babcock noted that starts are especially important in this building.

“There’s no sense putting your toes in the water, it’s going to be boiling, we know that. The first 10 minutes in here are always like that,’’ Babcock said after the optional morning skate at the Bridgestone Arena (formerly the Sommet Center). “There’s a 10-minute game and then a 50-minute game. You got to get started on time.

“This is a big game for them, it’s a big game for us. They’ve been playing well, we’ve been playing well. Something’s got to give.’’

Nashville leads Detroit by two points (91 vs. 89), but the Red Wings have one game in hand.

Predators coach Barry Trotz knows this is a different Detroit team than what his club has seen this season. “First time seeing them complete in terms of their depth, everybody on the same page, lines pretty well in order,’’ Trotz said. “We’ll see the real Red Wings.’’

Yes, you can make one. That would count, but make the mistake in the opposing team, and it's better to do it on a defensemen, and then forward, but goaltenders doesn't work so well.

Haha. I love that picture of Babcock and Ozzy. Ozzy doesn't seem to be enjoying himself as much as Babcock.

LOL. You're right but that wasn't what I changed.
TSN made that mistake (really odd they say he was born in Laval, CAN) but I made another one.

Look at the line-up
