Even the announcer mentions that Gill is a giant but "not a good fighter". Funny how he says at the end "Chara tunes him in"

Okay fine maybe I'm picking on poor Hal a little bit...........
Not a very impressive fight at all. Can Gill take solace in knowing that Chara hurt his hand with all of the punches that he was throwing at his skull?

Every time he's gonna fight, I'm like "oh no". He should take boxing lessons on ice or something. A guy his size shouldn't have trouble dropping guys 50 pounds lighter. At least wrestle them if you can't throw fists.

Anyways, people are being a bit harsh about him. He's a good bottom pairing guy. Good on the PK. Great guy in the room.

As a Hab fan first and an Oiler fan second, I don't want him wearing either team's uniform ever again. He was a decent player for a meathead when he played in Edmonton, but he has become beyond useless. Doesn't hit, doesn't skate, can't pass, can't shoot, only fights when invitations are RSVPed. Just a completely useless player.

Fighting LOL!. Pound for pound he might be one of the worst fighters I've seen.

That said, he's the worst skating elite level PK specialist I've seen. Usually elite PKers are much better skaters because they have to cover more ice. That long reach is good for something.

You obviously know nothing of Laraque's time in Montreal. He was brought in to be an enforcer, but he wouldn't do it. He is to nice, has no aggression whatsoever. The only thing he would do is those stupid useless staged fights against another teams enforcer.

Unless you are a "heavyweight", you are completely exempt from any type of punishment from Laraque no matter what you do to deserve it.

Yeah Gill isn't much of a fighter, at the same time though he's probably the only hab who'd take on Clarkson.

Suffice to say he looked ridiculous. Gill barely threw a punch. Bob Cole was mentioning during the fight how long of a reach Gill has, but yet we never saw it. Clarkson got a few good shots in and both of them ended the fight standing up with the refs separating it. No one was hurt but Gill was non existant in the fight. Clarkson clearly won it. Remember that time about 10 years ago when Chara and Gill fought? The announcer was primed for a fight between to big guys and there was an awkward pause after Gill was thrown to the ground 5 seconds later.

Here is the question, when is this guy going to realize he cannot fight? Here's the stats:

Gill - 6'7" 250lbs.
Clarkson - 6'1" 195 lbs.

How many times have we seen Gill lose a fight to someone half his size? I love Clarkson, he was a gem when he played in Kitchener and we know he is a good fighter but Gill has got to stop embarassing himself, a guy his size should almost never lose a fight.

The reaction of the Habs fans after tells the truth, quite a disapointment

I was expecting WAY worse when I saw this thread. Gill hardly embarrassed himself in that fight. Even though he is now a Hab and Chara is a Bruin I still can't watch Gill get is butt wooped in the fight, someone else posted here, without cringing...

Gill obliged Clarkson in that fight. Gill doesn't like to fight, he's made that obviously clear over his career. What he did is WAYYY better than the running away/coward act that some players do when they are confronted...

Gill is a terrible fighter, but I'd still take him over Jay Caufield or Chris Dingman. Man, those two human punching bags were even worse than Hal!

You're right. we should tell this poster that Laraque's carreer in the NHL is OVER. The guy has been injured for most of the last two years and is now giving his time to causes like PETA and to the Haitian People.

We used to get on Hal all the time when he was a Bruin- we figured a guy his size/strength should be a monster out there. He just doesn't have it in him- he said in an interview once that he was afraid to use his size & strength all the way because he might seriously injure someone.

But I give him a lot of credit- Hal will answer the bell whether on his own behalf or his teammates even if he does get his @$$ handed to him. I'll take someone like that any day over some @$$hole who turtles or hides behind an official.

I'd love to see Colton Orr fight Gill just so I could see a wicked KO.

it's not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog.

Gill is a very poor fighter for his size, no doubt. However, what's the point of saying "Hal Gill stop fighting!" when he rarely fights, and even more rarely actually starts the fights? It's not like Gill is an enforcer, he's just a big guy who occasionally HAS to fight.

My point is, your assuming that because someone is tall, they can fight. Its untrue. My point that strength and fighting abilities are far more important than height when it comes to fighting.

Lets make this clear for a second time..a guy who is 6-7 inches taller has a longer reach..he is punching down on the opponent while the opponent is punching up and is taking long range punches...
