Never really noticed that before. Usually just watch Forslund or whatever feed is available. Interesting.

Missed out a chance to make up some ground on Toronto. But, I guess you can't tank every game. Just sit back and hope that they will be back at again next time.

Even better is Cole's 11 goals in his 68 games (2009 playoffs included) since returning to Carolina last March. I think JR needs to start negotiating an extension with Erik so its not an issue over the teams heads next year.

Nobody wants to play next season wondering what the future holds for an elite 30 goal winger. It may take Erik roughly 204 games to score 30 goals, but it'll be worth it because he has done so much for the franchise and is good with the fans.

Yay...the Canes win and we can't see it, yet get their ***** handed to them by the same team when I paid good money to watch it on Saturday.

I love this team.

Only good news is that there's a tough schedule ahead, Montreal twice, Ottawa twice, NJ, Buffalo, Boston. Only the Tampa bay game seems winnable.

No man's land is probably a few wins away, still. A bunch of teams are right on their heels, some with games in hand.

The picture of Maurice in that Mo-Meter is pretty hilarious. He kinda looks like Val Kilmer in Top Gun.

After getting to watch a recap it's good to see Cam play so well. Looks damn healthy to me. I hope amidst the tank we can find a way for him to get his elusive shutout.

Just an honest question, SVT...how many points does Eric Staal have in his last 17 games? (I genuinely have no idea)

Cole's doing alright. He's going to be better next year if he stays healthy. The points will come. He brings more than just goals and assists to the ice. Physical play + willing to get dirty in front of the opposing goaltender + speed + locker room presence.

Do you really hate Erik that much?

Do you understand that if those things are worthless if they are not generating goals or preventing goals? If Erik Cole uses his speed simply to rush down the wing and then turn the puck over trying his one move, then it is WORTHLESS. If he uses it to get breakaways and then consistently fails on those breakaways, then it is WORTHLESS.

If Erik Cole is willing to stand in front of the net, but moves out of the way right as the shot is coming and allows the to goalie to see it (he does this ALL THE TIME) and has zero hands to finish a second opportunity, then it is WORTHLESS.

If Erik Cole glides in on the forecheck and then gently nudges a defenseman after they have already passed the puck, he'll get credited with a hit by the generous RBC stat counters, but he'll have accomplished NOTHING.

The guy has a goal differential of EVEN through 35 games on the powerplay. What's him standing in front of the net accomplished on the powerplay? Oh, wait...he doesn't stand in front of the net on the powerplay. He hangs out by the halfboards trying to be Peter Forsberg because he has awesome skills. His specialty is turning the puck over because his puckhandling skills are Wallin-esque, then whiffing on one-timers, firing the puck right at the goalie's chest and other amazing plays we have learned to expect from Cole.

Quote:
I predict Cole will play well in this final stretch and we'll see him on the scoreboard and also making an impact with his speed and physical play...like he has in the last few games.

You presumably think he'll be invisible on the scoresheet and a non-factor on the ice. Okay, as I said, we'll see who is right and who is wrong in short order. You can expect me to admit I was wrong after the final game. I wonder if I can expect the same from you.
Said on October 19th. He has two points in six games since. If Erik Cole continues that pace over the next six games, will you admit you were wrong? I expect not, as you will still argue that he made an "impact" with his speed and physical play. Someone skating really fast = making an impact.

And to answer your question: Eric Staal has 11 points in his last 17 games. If you haven't noticed, he's taken a lot of flack over that timespan. Difference between Staal and Cole is that Staal actually did something previously before that.

11 in the last 17
21 in the prior 17

When is the last time that happend(Cole healthy)? I don't dislike Erik Cole, he always makes an effort, and when he is right he is exciting to watch. The problem is that he isn't healthy way more often than he is healthy. It's a lot like Ruutu and Gleason in that the way they play makes them very likely to get injured and if they changed the way they play they would be less effective. Cole is just like that, he has to fly around and put himself in harm's way to be effective and because of that he gets hurt. It sucks but it's true.

Edit: Obviously other people have a slightly different interpretation.

If he fails to make an impact, as I said, I will say I was wrong. He didn't miss his one-timer last night, and I definitely think he made an impact.

Point taken.

btw imayagainknowanton, 10 goals in 34 games, you do realize that translates into 25 goals over 82 games, right?

So much for "bringing nothing" and "worthless"!
