Ben maxwell making team next year?

I know many people would disagree but the guy is still with the team, is it possible the team already already decided they want to give him first shot at cracking 3rd line spot next year? Why else would they keep giving him first call up along with keeping him around in the pressbox. Yes, metro is out but lets be real here:

Andrei-Plek-Cam
Pouliot-gomez-gionta
sergei-moore-moen
pyatt-lapierre-darche/MAB

Maxwell

Before metro's injury he was up and was behind MAB and metro being the 3rd spare.

For a guy they use on bottom pairings, I find it surprising guys like white or pacioretty didn't get a look first. Am i the only one who thinks he's being groomed for a position? Especially with "uncertainty" regarding plekanec?

I realize some think he's not ready or don't like him(i still think he has a future) but that only emphasizes my point. Why would they keep him around if they don't necessarily need him?

You do realize Moore, metro, darche and MAB are all UFA right?

hey, not my suggestion, merely commenting on how he's around practicing with the habs when they don't need him. And when they need someone, they choose him.

He's one of those players who needs to be put in an offensive role or else he's useless playing on the 4th line with no PP time.

All players that should make the team over him. Maxwell needs a year to become Hamilton go-to offensive guy instead of a supporting cast member IMO

No I don't call Maxwell a bust .... BUT
After seeing how good or visible were D'Agostini, Pacioretty, Higgins, Perezhogin, Marcel Hossa, or even Chipchura and Greg Stewart in their debut, and how they are now, I can't be too excited about Maxwell and his future.

Seriously, I don't recall to see a prospect as invisible as him.

Also he's an offensive center who played wing on a bottom 6 line.

You're right.
He's not NHL ready this year. Next year, he will be slightly better...hopefully; but I doubt that he can contribute to the team next year. So, maybe he will be ready in 2 years.
In my opinion, he's one year behind Pax. Pax will be ready next year, but he won't contribute much.

Graduate for next year: Pax, PK Subban, Trotter, Desharnais
2011-12: Maxwell, White
2012-13: Leblanc, Kristo

Let's not write off Maxwell too soon. I had high hopes for him for quite a while now. Though he did dissapoint me lately. But you can just write him off like that. He will get his shot in the upcoming preseason. Then, you might see a D'Agostini-Palushaj type of trade if things don't go accordingly.

Ryan White will never be a centerman in the NHL. Maxwell can't be a winger in this league. They're not competing for the same spot.

Maxwell's biggest enemies next year are Trotter and Desharnais.

We'd be in trouble if he did.

He may become an NHL'er one day, but it won't be anytime soon (within the next year) barring huge, unexpected progress.

I think he has done everything he can at the AHL level and will be given a chance to crack the NHL roster, kid needs to get some points to build some confidence. He has the ability to be a decent 3rd line centre with some offensive talent if he can put it all together.

I don't believe that to be the case. I honestly don't find Maxwell to be anything special.

I believe these players should be in the lineup before Maxwell:

Pacioretty
Trotter
White
Pyatt

Those four should make up our bottom 6 next year.

I could even see the Habs maybe pick up a player like Burish to fill out the bottom 6. Moore should be resigned as well.

Gionta Gomez Pouliot
Cammalleri Plekanec A.Kostitsyn
Moen Moore S.Kostitsyn
Pyatt Trotter(skill)/White(Size) Pacioretty

If the Habs picked up a guy like Burish, who is cheap and is really gritty. He would play between the 3rd and 4th line for the Habs. But with what he have as of right now, this is what it will look like. Free Agency could possibly make it look a bit different though. Again this is with what we have as of now.

Yea he hasn't impressed me so far in his NHL stints. Given the chance maybe he'd show us something special, but i doubt it. He seems average at just about everything.

He won't crack our top 2 lines so he'll be dealt for a pick or some AHL callup material eventually. The cycle of draft busts continues with the Habs.

This.

In a perfect world, Maxwell would have shown us more this year and we could have just let Metro and Moore walk and pencil him in...but clearly that has not been the case.

I think at this point i'd look at trying to keep Moore if he signs for around 1 million per season (i'd give him a 2 year deal if that provided more incentive to sign a little cheaper) and then keep Lapierre as the 4th line center.

Yeah, because O'Byrne didn't suck last year and isn't great now right? LOL as if the same can't happen for Maxwell.
