Interesting pick-up. It'll be nice to see how things turn out now with him in the Habs farm system.

Man, every time I hear the name Nash, I think about the butler from the movie Richie Rich saying the line "THIS IS NAAASHHHH".

I wouldn't worry about that one bit. Team have to be checking that number before signing players to contracts, and the league must be double checking that when they register them as well.

Right now we are at 49
We have 25 players under contract for next season
RFA : Pyatt, Sergei, Lapierre, Pouliot, Price, Halak, Trotter, Johansson, Carle, Wyman, Desharnais, Busto, Russell, Desjardins, Stewart
UFA : Plekanec, Moore, Metropolit, Mara, Bergeron, Darche, Benoit, Henry, Belle, Glumac, Sanford

Busto, Laraque, Mara and Johansson are pretty much 100% gone, so we fall quickly to 45. Stewart will more than probably be released too. 2 players among Metro, Moore, Bergy and Darche are probably gone too. Down to 42

Belle, Benoit, Henry, Glumac, Sanford may leave too but they will have to be replaced by other decent ahlers. So we can't really substract any of them. Although, I think that Glumac could accept an AHL deal with the Dogs.

The rest of the RFA and UFA will be signed. It leaves around 8-10 contracts for Gauthier to manage. Also, add to this the fact that we won't add a lot of UFA to our NHL squad (1 or 2 at most)

I think that the only prospects who are going to join the Dogs next year are Bishop, Nas, Engqvist, Fisher and Dumont. The rest will continue to play in the NCAA, Juniors or Europe. Only the last two need to be sign (Engqvist is already signed and counts against the 50 contracts limit) so I think that it leaves a lot of space for Gauthier to sign a few undrafted/free agents prospects.

Also almost all those skilled prospects are RD, so a guy with two-way potential and size could help fill a pretty big organizational hole on the left side. He's our Ryan Mcdonagh replacement, I guess.

Hey Whitesnake, is there anyone currently in the WCHA worth taking a look at or that the Habs might go after?

I have seen him play for two years, but that's a few years back when he was in Salmon Arm in the BCHL (I also saw his brother Riley play for Salmon Arm). He had good size, good mobility and he was sound defensively. Didn't shy away from the physical stuff. I was a bit surprised to see that he hadn't been drafted I must say...

I saw him on TV play last year and the year before for the ECAC conference final games. I liked him... kinda more than his brother in a sort of way, but he's definitely not super skilled, but played steady and was big, and could skate ok. I think it's a good pick-up.

I wonder what this means for Fischer? Are they gonna sign him? I mean, I wonder why it hasn't happened yet, if they are?

Yeah, that's the part.

Every time my wife and I catch that movie on TV, we watch it just for that part. For some reason, it cracks us up every time.

I found an old (Nov.25 2005) mini-report on Nash from McKeens:

"I drooled at his size and strong skating skills. A leader with great work habits playing on a team that is one of the top producers of talent at the Junior A level for College ranks. His name will be heard later this season."

The guy is 23. Not exactly a prospect. But says alot when the Habs sign a 23 year old from Cornell and don't even get their first rounder "project" under contract. Mmm...

Well there was one D that was playing in Minny and is now with the Guelph by the name of Sam Lofqvist. I always liked how he handled hismelf as a d-man. I personnaly wouldn't sign him or anything but I hope we'd give him a try in our next development camp.

And there's always the Minnesota Duluth gang in Jack Connolly, Justin Fontaine and Mike Connolly that deserves a real hard look if not a signing.

I'm obviously a big Genoway fan out of North Dakota.

What do you know? Maybe his semester is not over and doesn't want to hear about contract things until it is.. And they have a lot of time to sign him.

The Canadiens sign defenseman Brendon Nash

I hope I'm not late again with bringing up a new thread - just repeating one that's already started but here we go:

The Canadiens have signed a two year contract with the free agent defenseman, Brendon Nash.

Nash, 23 years old is 6' 3" & 206 lbs. He is finishing his studies at Cornell after having played with the the 'Big Red' of the ECAC.

He's from Kamloops BC.

In his last year with Cornell, he got 19 points in 33 games (2 goals & 31 assists) and 48 minutes in penalties. He was, essentially, the best defenseman with the 'Big Red'.

He played for 2 years with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the BCHL. In 112 games, he had 9 goals & 51 assists.

Nash took part int the Canadiens development camp in July 2009.

Here's a link to the info for those of you who can read & understand French.
