In the 4th game of the swiss league final between Geneva and Bern, Thomas Deruns, who took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics with the Swiss team, scored an incredible lacrosse style goal on goalie Marco Buehrer.
Unfortunately for Deruns and Geneva, they went on to lose the game in overtime. Bern now leads the serie 3 games to 1. (best of 7)
A few years ago, I thought his guy was only a grinder/hitter and that he had no place on the swiss team. Well, I take my words away, this guy has been simply amazing this season and has proven, in my mind, that he's among the best swiss forwards (top 5 IMO) and that he could play in the NHL. He certainly has the skills.
Deruns was amazing and "his" goal was superbe. (among the players that could make Geneva beat Bern.
And Crosby or not Crosby ! WTF ! (actually copying Crosby is a rather good thing !!)
I root for Bern and was pissed off when he scored his "****y" goal but what a goal ! chapeau Thomas.
He is a world class player and it would be nice if he had a shot in the NHL.
I moved to Geneva this year, so I had never heard of Deruns until this year, but I have to say he impresses every time I see him. Geneva just lost Game 7, so now it will be interesting to see if he looks at trying his hand at the NHL level.
The size and grit is there, and he's good defensively. Good hands, good overall skills, but it makes a difference that he could conceivably be useful in a third or fourth line role. My only concern would be about his skating. He can pick up some speed, but he's got a rigid stride and his acceleration isn't great.
