He'd be our #4 defenseman because hes better than Redden and Girardi.

Malik wasn't that bad at all, but haters will hate.

I would love to have Malik back on the Rangers. He was huge for us and with that crazy goal in the 18th round if the shootout against the capitals was sick.

(Oh and i didn't mean to jack your username. )

He kicks the hell out of redden.

He a big and tough player. He isn't that fastest defenseman but i would take him over Redden.

I question whether you have ever seen him when you say he was "tough".

I was never a Malik hater, but he was hardly tough.

I understand what you mean by not tough. I just thought he had hard hits.

Malik was not tough. And... what in the universe is crossing his mind when he throws a pass THROUGH his own crease like that?

He was an interesting cat; half brilliant and half idiotic. He'd have these fantastic stretches like in the playoffs against Atlanta where he became Bobby Orr in that 7-0 Game 3 (my favorite game since the lockout) and then he'd play horrible with the turnovers and stupid passes.

He made me laugh a lot though and for a veteran during a transitional era in my team's history, I have positive memories from him.

Plus, he gave us The Move which Rangers fans will remember for as long as there's an internet.

He isn't better than girardi. He is better than Gilroy though, so I agree with the #4 part. But hey, that guy is top ten in the NHL in +/- in the last decade.

This is true, all those dumb turnovers in our own zone is practically putting it in yourself.

It's just not QUITE as embarassing

Yea Malik hit at some points during the game. Everyone hits but Crosby.

I agree with you when you say he throws the puck across his own crease.

Gilroy is young. He's a rookie yet so he has many years to catch up. He'll get there soon. A lot better than Girardi. I agree with that.

Malik was an acceptable defenseman in 05-06, if for no reason but the fact that he played with Jagr, Rozy, Nylander, and Straka every shift.

It was downhill every season after that.

Now that you guys mention it about Malik being tough it all makes sense. Yea he put on a "FEW" hits, but he wasn't a major physical player.

Although he doesn't hit much, i would take him over Redden(100%)

Malik certainly had his moments. He was a very good outlet passer. His big problem was when he made a mistake it typically was an extreme blunder and usually ended up in the back of our net unless Hank bailed him out. The other issue was he has 6-5 and soft as a pillow. The combination of the two had MSG out for his blood, which would make any d-man have the jitters. The treatment of Malik was way over the top. I wish they would treat Redden the same way.

I agree.

I think if Malik had more power with his physical play and didn't turn the puck over he would be with us. The Rangers certainly would have been better off with Malik than with Redden. Redden is just worse. He turns the puck over, he makes many mistakes in their own zone and it leads to goals.
If they make the playoffs and he keeps turning the puck over, forget it, they won't beat a team with a better seed than them.
