Better multiplayer games than Call of Duty:

Goldeneye

Any of the Smash Bros. games

Any of the Mario Kart games

I own COD MW2 for PS3 and I can name at least 2 games clearly better:
Halo 3 - (and I hate the 360)
WoW - (and I have never played this game)

There are plenty of games listed that are better. It's not even as good as the first Modern Warfare.

No Call of Duty game has broken the Top 50, FYI.

Ummm that site means nothing. They have Grandtheft auto games in the top 15. 3 and 4 are the same and both terrible. Tony Hawk games suck. I may have missed it, but there's no FFVII ? That site and their ranking is terrible and not a valid point, even though I agree with you in a sense that Codmw2 isn,t the best, or close.

Counterstrike and Goldeneye are legends..

COD4 was great..

COD MW2 has too much of an arcade game feel...

Bad Company 2 is a more fun and realistic MP experience..

If they fixed the flaws of this game.. then it would be "one" of the best... but atm it's not even close.

Seeing Goldeneye mentioned a lot, you guys know they're remaking it as a Source mod for PC? They're getting closer to releasing it and yes, it will be free like most (all?) source mods. I could be wrong but I think there's an open beta floating around out there too.

I think it's already been out for a while now

http://www.moddb.com/mods/goldeneye-source

I think I've tried it before but no one ever played, the servers were always empty.

I'll give it another shot though.

It's flawed a bit but hits the nail on the head for the bulk of the list.

I personally loved Tony Hawk 2, me and my friend probably spent close to the same amount of time on that game as we did playing NHL games back in the 90's, which was a lot. The site used to be better before Gamefaqs/Gamespot incorporated it. I don't know how FFVII isn't on there, though.

For me personally I'd go with these 2 as well. Actually I probably put more hours into the Desert Combat mod for BF42 than any other game.

I mostly gave a pity vote to MW2, but it is the best FPS I've ever played.

MW2 > Goldeneye IMO

Goldeneye was fun but it has no real replay value. I played that game about a year and a half ago and it really wasnt enjoyable. Unreal and half life are much better games in this genre then goldeneye although it was rather fun back when it was new.

The missions don't have that much replay value, but the multiplayer sure does.

YES!!!!!!

The team communication on headsets/cooperation among teammates in this game has never been rivaled by any other game imo. That's what made it great. You could sit there and shoot the breeze with your friends and at the same time you were also all focused on the objective. It was also wayyyyyy more tactical. There was hardly ever more than one sniper per team in Socom 2 and all the snipers ever did was talk on the mic and give recon to teammates which was my favorite thing to do, I rarely shot my rifle. MW2 has absolutely NONE of that. The only "objective" in MW2 is k:d, which makes for a camp fest.

SOCOM was amazing for it's time on the PS2. The biggest beef I had with that franchise is that they would ruin maps rather than simply replacing them. Abandoned and Rats Nest were the best maps on SOCOM, but they were ruined on SOCOM 2 by changing them to night settings.

For me, the series peaked at SOCOM 2(I spent so many hours playing on Crossroads, Frostfire, Vigilante, Fishhook and Desert Glory). By 3, they were forcing vehicles, bigger maps and new gametypes into the mix, which were ruining the gameplay. I haven't played the new Confrontation, but I heard that it isn't much to care for.

Perfect Dark. I don't think I ever poured so many hours into a game that I didn't own the platform for. SO much fun.

Yes sir. I would go into matches with randoms all the time, and almost everybody with a mic would call out members of the opposing team. I loved the fact that mics were push to talk, so you didn't have all members of your team yelling something into the mic at once, like in CoD. I think what I liked most about the game was that it had a perfect mix of being a tactical shooter, but with some arcade elements in it. I LOVED that maneuver where you could instantly hit the deck, and pop right back up. It was so great when someone would ambush you from behind and you could dive down, turn around, and jump up and get them with a head shot. Being a good sniper took some skill too.

No, it's really not that great. I got it the day it came out and put a decent amount of playtime into it, but it got boring pretty quick. I may try getting the map pack sometime in the future if it becomes really cheap, but I doubt I will. I'll probably end up selling it at some point.

that's got to be the most overrated game of all time, imo.

the only thing i can see as to why some people love it so much is because they must have been kids at the time and it was the only shooter they knew about. the feelings of nostalgia help with the love no doubt.

i was primarily a PC gamer back then and there was so many shooters on the PC that were better than Goldeneye it wasn't even funny.
Of course the controls weren't ideal compared to a PC, the N64 controller only had a single analogue stick and was never really intended for FPS', developers had to make due with what they had. You could get use to it though and everyone had the same handicap.

People coming here saying "they played it recently and don't see what the big deal is" are kind of missing the point though. It was the first good FPS game you kid sit around the TV with friends and play multiplayer for hours. Something missing from the Xbox live generation where everyone plays by themselves from the comfort of their own home.

And the single player was great for its time, but with technical limitations doesn't hold up as well to modern games.
