Why not both MZA and Z?

Nazarov revealed that New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather asked him for his opinion on three players from the KHL which he claims the Rangers are interested in. “After the game in Newark I had a long conversation with the President of the Rangers, founder of the Edmonton dynasty of the 1980s, Glen Sather,” Nazarov shared. “He asked my expert opinion on three hockey players from the KHL which the Rangers seek to acquire.”
Quote:
The Rangers do have three prospects who’s rights they currently own playing in the KHL — Ivan Baranka, Pavel Valentenko and Mikhail Pashnin — but Nazarov’s comment seems to suggest the players in question are players who’s rights the Rangers do not yet own.

Sather asked the Russian coach his opinions on 3 players.. speculate the other 2...

That being said, I'd rather have Zherdev than Torts.
Then why did Zherdev want to resign with the Rangers? And why did the Rangers even offer him a contract at all? That statement is completely false.

Radulov has to be one, I'd guess.

Anyway, sure I'd take Zherdev back, depending on the price. Gaborik-Zherdev-Callahan is a pretty nice threesome on the right wing, and it puts Callahan where he's most suited to play.

Dubinsky-Anisimov-Zherdev
Avery-Drury-Callahan

2nd and 3rd lines that I would not be totally unhappy with. The problem, of course, is finding someone to play with Gaborik.

This has Sather-style reclamation written all over it, I'd take him for cheap. Fire your agent Z.

Yup...I like the way that looks. The problem remains finding players to put around Gaborik

Here's a fun fact...
-The ONLY (ONE, SINGULAR) person who showed up last playoffs was Henrik Lundqvist. Thats it.

Maybe you can say Cally/Duby/Avery played pretty decent at times but consistently it was the King...

Yeah, Zherdev was invisible. So was Antropov. . . And the rest of the team.

Hypothetically: Sign MZA, Z

MZA-Prospal/Christensen-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Zherdev
Avery-Drury-Callahan
Prust-Boyle-Shelly

I still think that foward crop will have troubles scoring.

Zherdev is a guy that leaves you wanting more when it comes to virtually every aspect of his game.

Sure, we could use him, but those types of players are generally the ones that get eaten alive in NY.

Z was 7-8 on ATOI. While I admit that he stunk up the place, he can't be expected to score and lead from the bench or playing with plumbers. Questions about last years PO failure should be aimed at the top 6. Oh, and that psycho coach.

Zherdev was pretty well liked by the Garden faithful as far as I can remember.

As long as you have any offensive skill, you usually don't get booed.

Brilliant post, Sir. Dead on.

If we keep jettisoning players to suit Torutrellas "non"-system we'll be fighting for a lotto every year. Torturella=fail

I hope they are also interested in Babchuk. He would have been a MUCH better acquisition than Kotalik, since he can blast from the point and actually do other things, too.

I seem to remember him receiving some venom from the crowd when he played like a scared child during his last 15 or so games as a Ranger.

If Torts never wanted Zherdev, Rangers would have acted differently. Torts looks like he despises everyone. He might be an ahole, but he ain't stupid. Does he dislike MDZ as well? Mike had it worse that Z, he just had advantage of D shortage, otherwise he won't be seeing the ice time for quite awhile.
I do not think Torts is a problem. If Kovalchuk signs elsewhere, Z may be back. Disinterested enigma is much better than highly motivated plumber. Zherdev is Kovalev Light. I'd love to see him back.

I think they probably are. We are missing a triggerman from the point after Kotacrap left and he`ll be cheaper than trading for Souray.

I'd like to see a D without Redden, Gilroy and Girardi, with a Babchuk, a cheap stay-at-home type and one of Sanguinetti or McDonagh next year.

Personally, I think point is the least of concern for this team. If sangs makes the team next year he'll be a great pointman, with Zotto being the other.

From what I've heard, Sangs doesn't have a great shot...
