Question

i've been wrapping my head around to why burke and leafs signed hanson and had him play with the leafs as they did was the Irwin wasting a year on their contracts. why was the same not done for stalberg and bozak.
is it to see what they got?
show them what it's like in the nhl?
either i picture hanson as a 3rd/4th liner and Irwin as the same.

I don't think they wanted to take them away from their NCAA playoff runs, and Bozak needed to rest his knee afterwards. Otherwise, physically anyways, Hanson and Irwin were NHL ready.

IIRC Bozak was not given time at the end of the season because of an injury and Stalberg I'm not entirely sure about...... as for why they did it for Hanson and Irwin, I think it was just to give them a feel for the game and so on.

Stalberg signed after the season was over and Bozak was physically unable to play.

are you sure stalberg signed after i thought signed before but was sent to the marlies unlike irwin and hanson. either way i was just wondering why burke had done this.

i might intern with them does not mean i understand everything they do and why?

that was part of the negotiation with hanson, something he really liked about the leafs, that they wanted him to get nhl games right away and a reason why he signed here...

hanson said that he really helped him prep for the following season

I believe Stalberg was still playing in the NCAA tournament when the regular season ended, and he played some playoff games with the Marlies when he became available.

hey frogren im now interning with the leafs so i can shed light here

hanson and irwin were signed as fa'

therefore burning a year was to mke toronto more attractive.......theyre then a year closer to ufa status

didnt need to do this with stalberg as he was a draft pick

bozak was hurt

Bozak was injured.
Stalberg was also injured and they didn't want to burn a year of his contract.
Hanson (and Irwin for that matter) was more of a project. They knew he was raw and probably less likely to demand a large raise after the season. Bozak on the other hand, who has an extremely incentive-laden contract, was more likely to have an immediate impact and thus insistence that his performance be reflected in his contract. Imagine if Bozak was up after the season he had, despite it being short, based on his numbers and play he definitely would have wanted a raise and/or a one-way deal.

Does that matter? I can't imagine why.

We lost a year to Kulemin when he decided to spend another year in Russia, and he was drafted.

stalberg wanted to sign with an nhl team, leafs held his rights.....therefore the player couldnt leverage a burn off year

Ah yes.

What about the 9-game rule though? How come that doesn't seem to apply with Irwin?

No but apparently I did. It's for Junior eligibility. None of these guys are eligible to play junior because they are too old. And once they sign a pro contract, they cannot return to the NCAA.

Come on Jonas, you should know that! You gotta read the CBA and such pal!

He's actually an intern trying to figure out the chemical properties of whatever the hell it was Cliff Fletcher was drinking when he brought in Frogren and Finger. Two players no better than the first letter of their last names.

i've read the cba. i was just wondering why they would burn a year on the contracts when they could have just sent them to the marlies. like they did with stalberg. just doesn't work out why they would want to burn that year for a couple of games. who knows why they did this. it could be to get out of the contract faster if the people doesn't plan out.

Because it only applies to players who still have junior eligibility.
