He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 1963–64, 1966–67 and 1969–70 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 1970–71 and 1972–73. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era. He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 1970–71, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.
Burke has to find that 1st. line center before we start knocking Bozak down, and Kadri has to play more than a single game in the NHL.
No one should be given a job, right?
exactly. make these guys work for their positions, nothing should be handed to anyone.
the only positions that i can see handed over are the first line center and rw sniper slots when and if the deals are made. everyone else should be made to compete for their roles which will in turn make this team stronger and more competitive in the long term.
Man, Cogliano is so bad - I would cry if Kaberle were dealt for him. You can talk about potential all you want. This guy just has no heart, and he is too easy to knock off the puck - if we want a speedy guy who struggles to score we've already got Stalberg. I would deal this guy for Grabovski, they are pretty much the same type of player - though Cogliano could be a bit more well rounded. Edmonton does not need Grabovski though, especially at his cap.... we are bad trading partners I think.
Not the greatest, but it gives us two top 6 forwards and a first that could be Toffoli.
No thanks. Frolov is lazy and is going to be overpaid by someone - let's not have it be us. Fleishman is having a good year but he's nothing special. Look at the team he plays on it. He's been benched a few times this year as well for his lack of effort.
Burke needs to build this team intelligently. Not just go after whatever he can get and hope for the best. Neither of those players are who you want to rely on to score goals or play 20 minutes a night.
I have no idea what Kaberle can get us but if Burke is trading for anyone it better be Patrick Sharp. I know Chicago won't want Kaberle. But maybe some of the return from him can be sent to Chicago. Sharp is the type of player the Leafs need - someone who can score goals, play the pk, play the pp and is just all-around good.
i cant say that i would be to thrilled if we traded kabs for brooks laich and a late first. i think at that point i would rather just take a prospect and keep the cap space. the same applies with fehr or fleischmann.
imo if burke makes no moves, our top6 next season will look something like.
kulemin bozak kessel
stalberg/caputi grabs kadri
i dont see fehr/flash/laich as an upgrade on anything on the top line and i dont think they are a big enough upgrade over anything on the second line to warrant the cap space and kaberle. imo stalberg has a lot of potential and if he can finish he will be amazing. kadri might be able to help him with that or if wilson wants kadri and kessel.
kulemin kadri kessel
stalberg/caputi bozak grabs
either way, if we are trading our best trade chip i would hope we can get if not something equally great on forward, something with the potentially to be great on forward. imo flash/fehr/laich are not that.
even though alzner is a highly rated defensive prospect i really dont see him as being better then schenn and i dont know if he will be considerably better then aulie irrespective of what hf rankings say.
bottom line we need to parlay kaberle in to offensive help. if not a forward, at least a defenseman with offensive skills.
personally, i think there is room to work something out with the jackets with filatov and kaberle.
I'd be happy to get Stephen Weiss if we can't get Horton from Florida for Tomas Kaberle +.
what is it about weiss that you find so appealing?
not to be a ****** but i think that we should set are expectations a bit higher. imo weiss is not better then bozak and likely wont be better then kadri. he MAY be better then grabs but i also think grabs days are numbered in toronto as soon as kadri emerges as an nhl player.
from what burke has said lately it sounds like he might be content with trying bozak/grabs/kadri center as the top 2 line centers next season and focus on top 6 wingers instead. having said that who really knows wtf burke is thinking. even if he says something looking right into the camera i tend to take it with a grain of salt.
moral of the story.....we will be a worse team if we trade kabs for weiss.
