I guess you know more than Lupul does here's a quote after he was traded.

“I talked to some guys on Friday, Richie and Carter about this,” Lupul said to CSNPhilly.com this week. “They said that people have been talking about that. I know all those guys are young guys and live downtown and stuff. But they are all professionals. Never once would they put themselves ahead of the team.
your quote disproves your own friggen point

It does sort of fit, the names I had heard were Carter, Hartnell, Upshall and then later Lupul.

I wouldnt be suprised to see Hartnell moved this summer, part of the cleansing. Carter is far to valuable for that.
Well Hartnell was/is married so I dont think it was as big of an issue with him.

So why was Lupul moved then?

You actually think Lupul is going to say "Yeah, these guys partied hard, had porn stars over and then were lazy in practice?". Of course he is going to protect his friends and say nice things.

The "crew" is being broken up piece by piece, only a few members left. They cut the "head off the snake" when they fired Stevens.

Lupul was moved to get Pronger and because his contract wasn't too great. Maybe the personal stuff plays a part in there, but who else are they gonna trade to get Pronger? Personnel-wise, that was a great move. The 2 1sts are the problem, and not addressing the other weaknesses, etc, etc.

The jist of the conversation was the older players felt the younger guys wern't prepared enough, spend to much time enjoying their fame and fortune, getting a bit out of shape during the season.

Any accuracy to this, what can be added to the story? How much smoke and how much fire?
This is a story that has grown and grown because one media outlet has reported it and others jumped on board. Is it any different that young guys are out enjoying themselves now compared to every other generation? The only difference is we now have cell phone cameras at every turn and pictures can be circulated in an instant.

As for where they live, I really don't understand why this has even become an issue, they live downtown, so what? Many Leafs live in downtown Toronto instead of the burbs, why are they given a free pass? I'm sure it's no different in other cities, you probably have guys who are married with kids living in the burbs while the single guys live downtown or closer to the arena. It makes me sick to hear all this crap because people make such a big deal about it when there is no proof that they are doing anything to jeopardize their play. If someone sees a player boozing it up the night before a game, that's one thing, but if they are out drinking on a night where they don't have a game the following day, what's the big deal? Don't the rest of us do it?

In case you haven't noticed, most of us think the Philly media is a big joke. Larry Brooks would fit right in.

Have you heard of this thing called a salary cap? Probably not.

The thing that cracks me up is they have moved the minions out. That didnt appear to work after 1 or 2 were sent out. The head needs to be cut off to rectify any potential problems. That means Carter or Richards should be moved if they belive this off ice stuff is a problem. Lupul was moved for a variety of reasons, being part of the crew was oneo fthem, not the only one. The head was not Stevens. He was pansy coach that didnt have the balls to do anything but he wasnt the head of the occ.

If you're a competitive athlete in any physical sport liquor is a huge determent to your conditioning as an athlete, sure some can get away with it...but when you are losing, fighting with the media, caught with porn stars, struggling to make the playoffs, etc....'good luck' is all I can say.

If they win the Cup they can sit Gina Lynn in it for all I care and drink off her. Beforehand, until you are a champion you should be disciplined to the max.

What would a Stanley Cup Champion like Laviolette know:

The Flyers, losers of 11 of their last 14 games, are 2-5 under Laviolette, who was hired on Dec. 4 and is still evaluating the players he inherited. He was asked if he thought the Flyers were close-knit.

"I think there can be a tighter group," he said. "There's room for improvement in everything - that being one of them."

Being disciplined off the ice, Laviolette said, is important to the team's makeup.

"You can't burn it at both ends and win a Stanley Cup," he said.

Did I miss the part where Laviolette said that Richard & Co. were out every night drinking their faces off, doing various and assorted pornstars, and showing up hungover? Or is that something you surmised from one or two sentences?

Again, NOT fact. So please stop posting it as though it was.

I dunno Charlie, ambiguous quotes from 4 months ago can pretty much be taken as gospel truth in my book.

The pictures are on the internet, it doesn't take a genius to do a simple Google search.

Also, Lavs is saying that players need to be disciplined off-ice to win the Stanley Cup, whatever they are doing Lavs is telling them to pretty much "stop it" if you want a championship.

I guess you also missed Holmgren's interview where last summer, Holmgren admitted that concerns were raised by the coaching staff about the lifestyles of the younger group of players that lived in downtown Philadelphia...what would he know, right?

Yeah, everyone is just jumping to conclusions...

Also Boucher commented about the young guys partying a couple months ago also...what would he know right?

As Upshall said in his flyers cribs segment early last season, his second bedroom was basically Richie's because Richie didn't live in the city. Maybe he's moved since then, but when all the pictures were taken and all these stupid rumors started, Richards lived in Haddonfield.

a) Do those pictures you google give the date and time they were taken?
b) I haven't seen Boucher's comments, but I'd be interested in reading them.

I seem to recall Holmgren also saying something to the effect that it wasn't an issue, but the press made it into an issue.

I don't believe for a moment that professional athletes are choirboys. I also believe that most young professional athletes do go out and party. And who wouldn't, in their position? I do remember seeing pics of some players in the summer. Or on weekends. I don't know about you, but I've been known to go out on weekends and days off. I don't show up to work hungover, and I don't ditch work to do so.

I do believe that if cell phone cameras and the press' attitude towards digging up dirt had existed during 1974 and 75, we would have read stories about drunken players, partying in the dressing room, out on the town and anywhere else they pleased about those teams.

If Holmgren hadn't **** the bed with the salary cap, and let the deadline go by without doing something about goaltending, I'd be shocked if we would be reading any of this crap now.

Not only that, but there are cell phone pics all over the internet of a ****faced Evgeni Malkin. He probably needs to get his act together too. Same with Pat Kane.

Jordan Staal got arrested for underaged drinking, so it is ridiculous to act like our guys are the only players who go out for a drink.

Everyone agrees they should not be drinking day before games or practices, but to expect them to not drink at all is expecting too much

Yup, Richards does live downtown now but when all this was going on he was still living in Haddonfield.

Quotes can be turned around and twisted every which way. This is just getting pathetic at this point, talk about beating a dead horse. Pretty funny how certain bashers on here speak as if they are ON the team and know 24/7 what these players are up to and whats going on internally.

Also, I agree with Charlie Girl. I too have a social life and go out and party after work and on weekends but it does not interfere with my work. I have a hard time believing Richards of ALL people would be going out on nights before games. If they want to go out and party when they have nothing to do the next day WHO CARES, its none of our business at that point.

Its also pretty damn funny how there were pictures of the blackhawks floating around drunk in a limo in their boxers, with no shirts and a bunch of girls on a road trip to Vancouver a few months ago. And people just said "they are young guys having fun"....NO KIDDING

Could you imagine if that was Richards or Carter ect? Holy **** they would get nailed to the cross

Or how about Dion Phaneuf and his drunken karaoke in Calgary?

Imagine if it had been a Flyer that drunkenly attacked a Cabby, rather than Kane?
