I'd love to get Johansen. But not Skinner. Pure scoring doesn't translate. Like Sterling? Career AHL'er. No thanks to little people.

The one thing I like about Dudley is that he is going to move us to more size and grit.
yeah, good point, but i'm still a fan of Skinner..he could fill out to 200lbs and his skills are undeniable.

the more i read/see on Bjugstad, the more i want him with the NJ pick...just 17, 6'4 200lb skilled C with massive potential...keep getting bigger Duds.

I'd have to say go for Nino Niederreiter, he's an elite forward and has amazing potential. His stock is rising fast and he's definitely a guy you would want in Atlanta. He has a great attitude and would be happy to play in Atlanta, win or loss, he's always giving all the effort he can and never gives up which is key to success. I'd suggest stay away from Brett Connolly, he appears to be a good prospect, but he's in a bit of a Jared Cowen position with injuries.

As for the other first round pick, I'd take a look at Quinton Howden, I did some work on him a while back and he's an amazing player with lots of potential but has not been able to show it because of a weak team. He's capable of a lot more than he has shown and is definately underrated in the draft. He's a good skater and is a good shooter. While you're at it why not take Calvin Pickard or Jack Campbell if they're still available? Goalies are always nice to have around and Campbell has definately shown that he has potential. Pickard's potential seems to be limited, but he's still ranked higher Campbell on most rankings. Some say Pickard and Campbell are going to go top 20, others say second round, so why not go for them if they're still up for grabs eh?

Yeah Nino's stock is rising too fast. He won't be there at our pick, it looks like.

Johansen and move up to mid teens

Picks after number 45 historically have a very low percentage of making it.

Like Johansen at number 8. Nino would b enice but suspect he will be gone.
Connolly is a great talent, WHEN HEALTHY.

Would love to see us trade up for a shot at Howden or Etem.

Johansen and Howden or Etem would be a very nice first round.

The tandem Gudbranson - Campbell could be genius it it could happen. Johansen could be a great pick I agree. If you want absolutly a center with the 23rd, I dont think Bjugstad will be there unfortunatly but consider Brock Nelson. Its another guy from the HS with a great potential. Being in the HS is always a risk but I think that he's a safe bet. He's a big center good in faceoffs with speed, acceleration, hands, size. If you like Chris Kreider last year, you like Brock Nelson this year. It could be great for your 2nd pick in the 1st round. This guy seems underated in the HFboard panel. You can also take Kirill "Next Kovy" Kabanov. Atlanta is the perfect fit for him. He wants to play somewhere without snow. The funny thing is that Atlanta can finish the draft with the next Heatley and the next Kovalchuk (Connolly - Kabanov). I suggest you to consider this seriously. Finally, keep an eye on John Merrill if he can reach the 23rd spot.

Why would you use a 1st rounder on another goalie?

We already have:

Ondrej Pavelec (people seem to forget he's only 23-year old)
Chris Carrozzi (OHL Goaltender of the Year)
Ed Pasquale (who was one of the best goalies rated by RLR out of last year's draft)
Alex Kangas (awesome year at U of Minnesota)
Peter Mannino (great year in Chicago)

There is no need to pick a goalie any earlier than the 3rd round, if at all.

I'd take Campbell with the devils pick. If not, Conz in the 2nd round.

No knock on Bjugstad, but there are couple dozen teemuriihijarvis for every bertuzzi, that is a giants with potential that turn into players.

Its being speculated on SportsNet in canada that ATL has let it be known that the Thrashers 1st is up for grabs for the highest bidder. That being said do you think a deal based around

Penner + Cogliano +

for

1st +

Also as an Oilers fan I don't want to trade Penner or Cogliano(like his skills but is redudndant on the Oil) but a chance for another top 10 to a rebuilding team is almost to much to pass up IMO. What do you think it would take to get it done?

IMO prospects are a non starter because of the Oil are rebuilding and if the Thrashers are trading their first then they are looking for NHL ready players on cheaper contracts and I didn't use Hemsky based deal because it has been widely rumored(by local media) that he might be on his way to CBJ in a deal around the 4th overall.

Not trolling just just speculation.

I would do our NJD 1st plus some ancillary pieces for Penner straight up.

Don't really want Cogliano, he seems like another generic Bryan Little-esque top six winger.

I would do ATL 1st, Byran Little, plus Boris Valabik or Ivan Vishnevsky (Visnovsky replacement) for Penner, MSP or Omark and a 2nd.

I'd love it if Atl traded for MPS! I'm absolutely sure that he will evolve into something really special. Maybe bäckström caliber.

MPS isn't going anywhere if the oilers are trading Penner , just our LW depth but Omark could be had.

IMO I would do

Penner + Omark + Chorney(PMD needs another year in the AHL)/3rd
for
1st + Little(grew up with him and his brother hometown kid) + Valabik/Vishnevsky

would do for sure

I would highly doubt that. I suspect it is based on the fact that in his first lengthy interview as the Thrashers GM he said that everything has a price, and he would listen to offers but has a firm idea of what they are worth.

That is too much to give up for a guy who is a UFA next summer IMO.

How much have guys actually seen these prospects play? I've learned to defer judgment to professional scouts because I can't realistically watch all these kids, at least enough of them to make an informed decision.

Always draft BPA. Goalies take years to properly develop, and nobody knows what the Thrashers will be like by then. Besides, the likelihood of any goaltending prospect being an NHL player is very slim. Other than Pavelec (obviously), I wouldn't count on any of those other guys to have successful careers.

I like Austin Watson, but I think there will be better guys on the board at our pick and he'll probably be gone by NJD's pick. Good size at 6-2, good speed and hockey sense. He's only 18 but he reminds me a little of Kane with his upside and potential to fill out.

Schwartz is another guy I like. He's not big which may scare teams away (and admittedly might scare away Dudley has a hardon for big guys) but I really like what I hear about him.

He's smart and from what I've watched he's always in the right position on both ends. He's not a pure scorer but his hockey sense and playmaking ability is off the charts. He reminds me of Toews and I wouldn't mind seeing a Kane-Shwartz-Bergfors line. Power guy, playmaker, sniper. Very good 2-way guy and scored just about half on extra strength situations. He can run a powerplay.

So yeah, I would take a flier on him with the NJD pick if he's still there on the board. He'll be learning from Pevs and Antro, too.
