How totally lame cheer for a teams demise.

I don't get why Montreal fans would hate the Leafs. Unless you are in your mid-forties you are talking about a team that has never even been to the Finals in your life time, not to mention never knocked Montreal out in your memory.

I can understand hating Boston. A true rival. A team that has threatened and effected the success of the Canadiens.

But hating Toronto? I don't get it.

You will never see me rooting against a Canadian based team succeeding, especially versus a US team.

The Leafs have never been a threat to Montreal at all. Where does this "rivalry" come from, the Toronto based media machine?

In the late 60s, yeah, but the Leafs have been a joke for so long since then.

What's the point?

No more Leaf flags on cars...aaaaaaaaaah. Can't wait to talk to all the bandwagon-jumping Leaf fans I know who have the nerve to call me and diss the Habs when they watch all of 5 Leaf games all year and get all cocky when they win a few PO games. It's going to be a quiet day in T-dot tommorow.

People take this gloating too seriously. Of course we're gonna be happy. Boston fans are happy when Montreal is out and vice versa, same with the Leafs. What's hockey without rivalries between the fans?

That said,

First of all I live in Toronto, and you won't find many intelligent hockey fans here. Most of the fans are bandwagon jumpers. Most of my friends are Leaf fans and they'll fly their flags year-round, but as soon as the Leafs win a game in the playoffs you see 75% of the cars have flags.

Secondly, it's easy to hate the Leafs because they are a classless hockey team. They play a very grinding and dirty type of game. Guys like Roberts, Tucker, Domi, Belak, etc, etc, etc...all the same garbage over and over. It's just poetic to watch those guys lose.

Where does the Anti-Toronto Sentiment come from.

For me it is living in Southern Ontario and living around all the leaf fans. 99% of leaf fans are idiots.

Plus the so called "national" media has such a toronto bias. it makes me sick

Exactement. Hating the Leafs comes with the territory. You cannot be a real Habs fan if you like the Leafs. Doesn't go together.

I like how the leafs are trying to explain how they are better then us by them winning 2 of 6 and us lossing 4 straight. We loose to the division champions, saying philly is better then TB is ridiculous, but we will see now won't we. The habs have the #1 group of prospects in the NHL and the leafs, bottom 25? We have a future, and the future for us isn't now and we still made it as far as the leafs. So lets take this into account, we aren't they best we will be, eliminated 2nd round. Leafs best they can get, out 2nd round. Ahh if only it was 1967 again, would be nice to see how it feels to win.

The leafs lost, I'm in heaven!

The hockey gods heard me cry
And made the leafs say goodbye
To their fans in TO
A parade this year? Hell no!

Flames' fans can be proud
To be the last one cheering in the crowd
Bet they'll have fun like a pup
When the Flames be the ones drinking from the cup

yes I'm drunk!!!!!

Yeah, that's half of it. Add in annoying fans and players. They're the New York Yankees of Canada, except they've never won anything.

Just think...No more Pat Quinn news conferences...No more game day stories about a light practice...No more grinning Mats Sundin (Does anyone else HATE his facial expressions after he scores)...the Calgary Flames will be the top story on Sportscentre (Yes, there are other teams in Canada!)

And suddenly I have cheered up

Back to the cellar? nonsense. They have to much money to waste on the likes of Francis, Nieuwendyke, Roberts, etc etc over the hill players that will keep them contending but never put them over the edge.

Oh yeah Leafs loosing is almost as good as the habs destroying Boston.

So after a 37-year drought you are content with a comparatively closer second round exit, right?

Ya no kidding rake. The fans think they havea cup team, but everyone just waits and watches and then the leafs lose, and it was nothing special, cause it was obvious.

Leafs made a heck of a good effort to get back into this game after being down 2-0 and considering the stomping they took last game. Lots of grit and credit for the comeback, just too little too late. Oh well, now Leaf Nation can join Habland is planning for next season...and then there were four.

Overall, good performances by Canadian teams and good to see Calgary still alive!!

It's a fact.

Montreal was embarrassed... Toronto was not.

Aside from the game 5 debacle.
