Question...Josh Harding From MIN? (Silly Goalie Thread)

Would you be for or against getting Josh Harding for:

2010 2nd rounder
2010 6th rounder

Bonus Question
You have 1 goaltender prospect and his name is Jeff Frazee. How are you guys not more terrified?

Absolutely against.

A hip-injured 25 year old goalie for a high 2nd rounder and a 6th? No thanks. We can draft two better prospective goalies, or pick one up via free agency.

Bonus Answer
Part 1) Mike McKenna would beg to differ. He certainly could see NHL time again.

Part 2) Lou Lamoriello. You wouldn't be worried either.

Marty still has a few years left, so there's really no reason to get Harding. He'd be sitting on the bench more than he already does in Minnesota.

And we're not worried, because we trust Lou to get us a goalie for when Marty is retired.

Because we can always sign a goalie out of college or draft one in June.

So you wouldn't trade for him because you can always draft one. Wouldn't it make sense to trade a draft pick for an somewhat established (albeit injured at the moment) NHL goalie than draft an unknown.

(Not speaking ill of Lou's plan, just honestly curious)

No. The timeline isn't good. He'll be closing on 30 before Marty retires. What's the point of that? Our future goalie is probably 18-20 right now.

Why? Brodeur is still playing at the top of his game. He has two years left on his contract, which he will likely play out, and may stick around for a little longer after that. Harding is 25. I'd rather use that second rounder to draft a 17/18 year-old who will be 20-21 by the time Marty is ready to hang them up.

Jeff Frazee has potential, but his head isn't always there. I'm a little worried, but I also know Lou isn't a ******. With Marty still having a couple of years left, We still have time to draft, and develop a goalie. I feel bad for whoever will be the next one, because filling the gap Marty left would be like filling the Grand canyon with syrup.

Harding will be 28 or so when Marty is done, and there aren't many people that think Frazee is the answer.

Our future goalie is not in the system yet.

I'm not sold on Frazee, but I'm not 100% lost on him either. His ability is there. It's his head that is the problem. I think the Devils organization is the best one for players who have "head" problems. Their development team isn't the best by accident. If Frazee gets competition, I would feel better though. But like I said before, how would any goalie want to be the one to fill Marty's shoes? Budaj failed at filling Roy's shoes.

Just from watching the highlights of Lowell games, Frazee is letting up some goals that NHL goalies just can't let up.

Brodeur to Wings for Legace. We have to start the youth movement after all.

Ah 2005, what a year.

I won't start to worry about post-Marty until the time comes.. Even at that time, I still won't be that worried, because I'm sure Lou will have something in mind

Yup. Cross that bridge when we come to it, and you can bet Lou has a plan in place. I just hope he sees someone he feels can be our guy, because it'd be nice to get them in the system this year and develop for 3-4 years.

I haven't watched him much this season, but he could be going through a sophomore slump. Last year, he damn near carried that team to the playoffs on his own...and they weren't nearly as good as they are this season.

He just looks out of position, not as mobile as I remember him, etc. I don't know, maybe (hopefully) he'll pick it up in the playoffs.

Hmm...I know he worked with Caron and Terreri a lot last year. I don't think Caron has been around much this season since Terreri's been spending more time with the big club. Could have something to do with it.
