What does everyone see the lines being with Simon and Lydman possibly returning?

Here's my stab at 'em....

Gelinas --- Conroy --- Iginla
Nieminen --- Nilson --- Donovan
Saprykin --- Yelle --- Clark
Simon --- Lombardi --- Kobasew/Lowry

Regehr --- Leopold
Warrener --- Lydman
Ference --- Commodore

Oliwa, one of Kobasew/Lowry, and Montador sits. Montador has been playing great, so if Lydman seems shaky or out of place, toss Monty back in there.

I know Sutter inserted Commodore before Montador when the injuries hit, but Montador has been playing a lot more minutes than Commodore as of late. I wouldn't be surprised to see Commodore being scratched if Lydman returns.

Clearly we need something to rally around. Cue - paint based concoction.

I agree with your forward lines, though its tough to scratch Lowry now. I do like the thought of keeping Leopold with Warrener though, but thats sketchy to do this late in the season. Commodore would be the first out I think though.

Gelinas-Conroy-Iginla
Nieminen-Nilson-Donovan
Simon-Lombardi-Kobasew
Saprykin-Yelle-Clark

Those are a solid four lines IMO (and with Deano and Rhino out, Yikes)

Regehr-Leopold
Warrener-Ference
Lydman-Montador

I like this, not quite full strength, but Monty been solid.

Disagree. Montador has been paired with Regehr lately and has passed Commodore on the depth chart for the time being. I'm a big Commodore fan but I think he might be the odd man out if Lydman comes back.

Fair enough. I just thought that with Gauthier out, Commodore - not Montador - would be the guy to provide the crease-clearing presence and lay out the big hit once in a while.

To me, both the play of Commodore and Montador have made Gauthier expendable. Bot have been having an excellent series.

I must quote my friend: "Nice to see all the new Flame fans..hahaha" This is awesome, I'm loving every minute of it.
Is it possible for us to even consider the returns of Reinprecht and/or Macammond?

I just want to say good luck against San Jose. It's going to be a great series and watching Nabokov and Kiprusoff going head-to-head will be great to see. It's nothing against Calgary or just because they beat Detroit, but I seriously do think San Jose will beat the Flames. The series will at least go 6 games, but in the end I believe the Sharks will win.

Either way, good luck.

A friend of mine, who's a Sabres fan, included this accessment in an email:

"Frickin Calgary. They don't seem too concerned that
every team they've met so far has a decided advantage
with regard to talent. They just go in and outwork and outsmart
them. And beat 'em."

Kinda like that (relatively) impartial little scouting report.

Wow!

A 4-1 win in Game 2 and we pick up both wins on the road. This team never ceases to amaze me.

A huge to the Nieminen - Nilson - Donovan line.

Go Flames!!!

The Nilson, Nieminen, Donovan line is everything you want in a second line. Good size, speed, cycling, offensive, defensive play, physicality, everything. And they have an innate chemistry, kudos to Sutter for finding this combination. Will none of them are gamebreakers, together the whole is greater than the sum of their parts. Great line and hopefully Calgary can keep them together for a long time.I don't remember the last time there was this good of a second line in the nhl that clicked this quickly.

Now all they need is a good name!

Yeah, I love this line. Awesome chemistry, speed, and hustle like no other. I agree with Cactus - the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. That's called synergy (when 1+1=3). Since this line doesn't have a name, we should call them the synergy line!

Nemo Nils Dono

That line really takes the pressure off the kids too I think. As long as they can throw some offense in they can take the pressure off Sappy, Lombo & Kobasew which just gives them more time to develop, and when they do then Calgary will have a solid top three scoring lines, with good D, and a great shutdown line with Gelinas, Yelle and Clark. Maybe they should go like this next year....

Saprykin - Conroy - Iginla (I think Saprykin should get this full time next year)
Reinprecht - Lombardi - Kobasew (I like Rhino and Lombo when they're together, let Kob finish)
Nieminen - Nilson - Donovan (Nils needs some FO work, but its all good here)
Gelinas - Yelle - Clark (I like this shutdown line, Gelly gets pulled up if Saprykin falters, or in crunch time)

Oliwa can go in the PB and come out when needed, Lowry will likely retire I would think if not he can PB too, Simon & McAmmond could afford not to be resigned then they run out of room. If Lowry retires, then pick up a young'n to get time in the bigs (Nystrom out of College maybe?)

Discussions about next season's (whenever that might be) lines really belong in a different thread. For the sake of argument, we'll consider this...

First, think realistically about how much each NHL team's roster changes each year. You're making assumptions that the only moves GM Sutter makes is to sign Conroy & Niemenen (neither are going to be slam dunks) and to let Simon & McAmmond walk. Letting Simon go would be foolish, and to part ways with McAmmond would be expected. Oh, and a year in the AHL would do Nystrom a lot of good.

No way is the group, out of camp, going to look that similar to what we're seeing now.

Did anyone hear Cherry tell Harvey the Hound to "screw off" just before the Flames came on the ice? :lol And then he pwned that idiot from The Calgary Herald that said **** about him getting out of trouble by wishing a dying child to get well. I can't believe that got published.
