Calgary - Canada's team? Alberta's team?

Now that Calgary is the only team left I thought that it might be interesting to see the stats on how many Oiler fans are card-carrying members of the ABC club (always beat Calgary, anybody but Calgary) and who is on the Flames' bandwagon.

Gotta love Calgary right now. They bested my Canucks (yes, they are the better team!), and I can't help but root for them.

The Sharks will be a tough test, and I have the Sharks winning in 7 games, but I hope Calgary pulls it out!

I'd rather have my wisdom teeth pulled than cheer for Calgary.

Go! Go!

It's just a great story, the whole thing. I wish it was the Oilers, but it isn't and hopefully our time will come. Good on them, and although I really dislike being called a "bandwagon jumper" I'm honestly caught up in their success.

Go Iginla, go Gelinas, go Sutter. And for my father in law's sake, I hope they win the whole damn thing. He's had a tough year.

Right. Lets put it this way. Would Calgary cheer for the Oilers if it was the Oilers in Calgary's position. I don't think so. They never have. Why was there no talk about the Oilers in 1997 when they upset the stars? In 1998 when the Oilers upset the Avalanche. No talk then and now we're supposed to cheer for the Flames as Oilers fans. Never.

You know, I tried to cheer for Calgary this postseason. I really did.

But you know what? Cheering a Flames goal made me feel like I was rooting for Islamic Jihad, the Bubonic Plague and an ABBA reunion tour all rolled up into one. I felt DIRTY.

It's hard to fight over 20 years of BOA indoctrination.

However, i would rather cheer for the Flames than Big Money.

Said this before. You can respect the team, the players, the coach, and the management. But I cannot fathom cheering for their success in the playoffs. Sorry.

Yet more proof that, although this is the best board around, insanity can often prevail.

Cheering for the Flames..................dear god..............

Go T-Bay, if anyone.

I don't really care about the battle of also-rans, when both teams are good it'll be the Battle Of Alberta again. Then I'll get out my voodoo dolls and I'll burn little Gauthier's in effigy with the rest of you.

The more they win now, the more I can hate them next year.

If it's Calgary and Philly in the final, i'd have to pull for Calgary just for the draft pick's sake.

That would be a hell of a tough call, and I'm as big a draft guy as there is

"Pick your poison" would never be more accurate than there. I think I'd have to cheer for PHI even though it would cost the Oilers 6 spots in the draft, but I'm really not sure. I honestly like CAL's work ethic and all, and a bunch of their players, but seeing the Flames fans have their fun with that would be absolutely awful

Bleh.. I was happy with the Flames winning a round and all but now it's gone too far! On a more serious note, I'm really starting to get a Philly for the Cup vibe and that's not good for our draft pick! Primeau has been an absolute beast in the playoffs so far.. he's exactly the kind of player the Oilers need down the middle (minus the injury-riddled regular season).

I myself do not play hockey, but I love hockey, and obviously I become Oilers fan forever. Besides the home team support, I see the art of hockey, I see the hockey blood in every Canadian. It is a national sport, and now the only one Canadian team, the only small market left in the playoff run, I will cheer for them in this race. It is the sportmanship. We do not hate the competition. The competition will make Oilers better, and the Flames are just doing that. For the CBA coming up, the Flames' success plays a huge part in restructure the players' salary, which has gone out off Oilers' reach. If we want the Oilers success, they should be competitive in both marketing as well as on ice performance. Come on People, Oilers are outsider for this race, we cheer for Alberta team, we cheer for Canadian team, we cheer for small market team, and above all, we cheer for the underdog team.
Untill next season. Go! Flames Go!

NNNEVER!

You're right about the Flames success making the Oilers better. Thats the only positive I can take from their little run.

But it ends now. I won't predict anything, but the Flames are facing their toughest opposition so far. Go Sharks Go!

For the love of GOD men (and ladies)! Unfortunately the Oil did'nt make it so I was forced to root for another team (not that they were THAT team). Calgary has put together a good run and I was happy that they beat the Wings, but for the love of every thing that is holy, enough is enough. They've exceeded their expectations, and as far as I'm concerned thats enough. Could you imagine if the flames won it all, we'd never here the end of it! The only team that should be winning the cup is the Oilers. Period.

It could actually cost us 8 spots if the SC finals is between Cal and Phi because Philly was ranked higher than the Flames in the end of the season rankings.

If Tampa or San Jose win, we pick 23rd.
If Philly wins, we pick 30th.
If Calgary wins, we pick 22nd.

nope, division winners are seeded 25-30th, or 24th thru 29th if a non division winner wins the Cup.

The PHI draft pick will be at:

PHI wins: 30th overall
TB wins: 25th overall
SJ wins: 25th overall
CAL wins: 24th overall

I stand corrected. I didn't think the division leads came into effect when deciding draft position.
