makes sense

homer takes much abuse and has had many injuries. he must have some record for being crosschecked.

but it seems strange that babcock called homer tommy. he also said outstanding, instead of real good....

maybe the reporter quoted the wrong person?

He's definitely one of the guys who deserve it. Congrats Homer! (lol babcock calls him Tommy haha!!)

I personally think Theodore will win it, but you never know!

Hey! That's true, Lilja defintely deserves some recognition for battling back from such a bad injury and helping the Red Wings make the playoffs (and maybe more? )

Maybe next year...

edit: unless Crybaby has to recover from getting his wisdom tooth out and Uncle Gary decides to give it to him -_-

the last 18 of 20 winners of this award overcame a career/life threatening illness.

It's a shame that Masterson became a competition whose injury/illness was more severe. It's not like those players have choice to comeback or not, for example Blake, how many games he missed because of his cancer, did he come back because of his love for the game or 15 mio left on his contract, but if the word "cancer" is thrown around he automatically gets the award, despite his reputation being selfish player, who cares moreabout his stats than his team's success - truely the definition of sportmanship. Phil Kessel is another example - as if he had chance not to come back. It's a shame that they got the award ahead of Chelios, who plays in AHL, despite having enough money to buy the whole league.

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed when Holmstrom gets back up after yet another crosscheck to the back, let alone finding the will to strap on the pads and do it another year.

But after a year of headaches after the concussion, I'd think Lilja would be a better nominee from the Wings.

"lulea?" Sorry, I'm probably just WAY out of the loop but what's "lulea?" former team he might go back and play for or something?

haha, yeah. sorry. it's luleŚ, the team he played for the 2 seasons before he went to the NHL and during the lockout.
it are pretty lose rumors so far. i can't really say how much truth there's in it. but one had him getting a 2y deal. and somehow i think he's the kind of guy who'd be willing to finish his career at home.

Holmstrom has no chance of winning it. Bad reputation.

If he can still be competitive in the NHL, I see him staying. But, he could very well want to play a few years without eating hockey sticks/pucks before he hangs 'em up. Let's face it, he has the toughest job in the game and we all know we wouldn't be standing in the crease doing what he does for our 13th season.
