Neither prospect is terribly appetizing, but I think I'd rather play Chicago. By just a little.

Chicago has great speed and skill that should give the Avs' defensemen fits. However, they also have a first-time playoff goaltender, and their defense can be forced into a lot of defensive zone turnovers with a good forecheck/cycle game. And when the Avs' forwards are on their game, they have a good forecheck/cycle game.

Not a big advantage though, admittedly. :-)

Might as well start talking about it. I do believe the Avs will find a way to make it into the playoffs.

Given SJ's history of folding in the playoffs - they would be a good team to start with - get the young AVs players some playoff experience and give them at least some chance of defeating an upper ecshelon team.

GO AVS GO!

Anyone check the Hawks vs Avs thread in the main board? Started by an Avs fan, but it was pissing match.
I can't believe how arrogant the Hawk fanbase is. There used to be only 4 fans in their board and now it has multiplied worse than rabbits. I would love to stage an upset in the first round and who knows..maybe we can do it

After all, this team is too young and too stupid to know anything else

from an outside fan POV, it's a tough call. i would give the hawks the edge in skill, but the avs the edge in net. this would be a very exciting series.
i would give san jose the edge in team play and in net...but they are known for choking early in the playoffs, so...

it's a tough call...but if i'm rooting for COL in rd 1 (and i will be), i'm hoping to play CHI...for the same reason i'd hope to play PHI if the avs were in the east.

the avs have surprised a lot of people this year and have played great. i think beating either team in rd 1 is improbable, but very possible. either way it will be fun to watch, and it's been a fun season to follow in general.

Maybe we should look it from different angle. Which fanbase is more bearable?

I'd take the Sharks... they seem to mind their own business. And pretty good at taking humors, take a look at their playoff avatars:

Hawks fans on the other hand...

meh i still like hawks fans, mainly because we have a common enemy in vancouver.. if we don't win the cup i want chicago to, and if we had a team like theirs i'm sure we would be just as confident facing a team like we have

Sharks' board is by a mile best in humor . Nobody can compete with them.

I wanna play San Jose just because that would mean later start time and I like the 8 or 8:30 games. Just seem more important....

I am very excited you guys have San Jose first round because of one reason and one reason only...

Nabokov is really struggling now and you guys would be an awesome upset Cinderella story...

I have been rooting for you guys all season long and with the addition of muller you guys are my second favorite team... with my team out of the post season, i hope you guys kick the crap out of them...

Also i am stoked for the match up of young guns verse the skilled players... In this match up we got

muller/duchene/stastny/yip((BU BABY))/quincey

vs

heatley/marleau/thornton/boyle/blake

It's okay, you're an outsider, but lol at Yip and Quincey before Stewart, Galiardi, O'Reilly.

you need to have a good sense of humor to be a fan of a team that has their history of choking
