OK so here's my random thought of the day. Random grumbling, really.

I live in a city of well over a million people with many, many sports bars and pubs. I love hockey, but I really like the NFL too, and it's sudden death elimination play offs.

The Flames are playing the Leafs tonight. Just another regular season game: 45 out of 82. But it's Hockey Night In Canada, which seems to automatically take precedence over any other game.

I have been tweeting. FB status-ing. Texting friends. Phoning bars. Even had a friend in local radio ask on the air for me. There is not one bar in this ENTIRE CITY playing the football game on the main screen with audio. GRRRRRRRR. IT'S THE EFFING PLAYOFFS ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!

This ordeal is giving me a whole new appreciation for what some of you must feel like, being fans of a sport that often gets put on the back-burner in your city. (Don't get me wrong, I know that Nashville has great hockey fans and it's not like no one in Nashville cares about the Preds, I'm just saying, it's not exactly the #1 sport in the US)

So, for every time any of you have ever huddled around the one small TV in a bar playing the Preds game without audio while the big projector screen had football or baseball ... good on you. That is what I will be doing tonight. And thank you for reading my venting, haha.

You know, I'm going to make a calculated guess and say it had to do with a girl.

Swear them off for a few years. Honest. Get the career going, maybe get a little money in the bank, buy a nifty car instead of roses and chocolates.

I know, it's difficult...they're so cute and all. And they're soft. But sometimes they'll spear through your heart and make your life miserable so get your life settled. Honest, they'll still be cute and soft 3 years from now.

This advice also goes for women. Just switch the adjectives to hunky and hawt and adjust roses and chocolates to um, well you know what kind of boots.

Thanks Adz. I ran into my ex (the one I was going to propose to the night she told me she cheated on me half a year ago). Running into her is never fun.

It's rant time.

For years, debate has raged on about getting a new basketball facility, but no progress has been made. For the uninitiated, ETSU plays basketball in the Memorial Center (image in the link), which was originally designed to house the football team that no longer exists. In 2004, a new basketball facility and Mini-Dome demolition were slated for 2016 in the athletic department's "master plan."

Well, it's 2011, and there has barely been a peep out of the university on the matter. I'm not a huge fan of watching basketball in a football stadium that isn't even suitable for football anymore, but I wasn't really too bent out of shape over it. Then, last night, I saw this:

That is the 10,000-seat The Bank of Kentucky Center (the definite article is part of the name). Its primary tenant? The Northern Kentucky Norse - a Division II team. The time from feasibility study to the opening event was just a tick under ten years. Meanwhile, ETSU administration has done nothing on a basketball venue for the last six years-plus but faff about doing its best Kevin Klein impression.

As if the incompetence in financial aid, public safety, and housing weren't enough, along with the stifling of game atmosphere by people telling students to sit down and behave themselves (to say nothing of the dingle-berries who wear orange to our sporting events), we also have a group of executives that have no idea what they're doing. This also probably means that the baseball stadium could have been done two years ago, the soccer stadium could have had lights and locker rooms from the outset instead of having to wait two years (still waiting on the locker rooms), and the football program might have been saved with someone who didn't just throw up their hands and say "aw, shucks."

It's enough to drive a man insane.

That is my hair after playing pond hockey last night. My hair is usually brown... the reason you see blue is due to the camera flash reflecting off my frozen solid hair...

Would the Executive Advisor to the GM normally travel with the teams, ever?

What I'm really asking is if anyone thinks Chris Chelios might possibly come into town for Saturdays game? I have a hockey card I'd like to have signed.

Also, anyone know if the Wings stay at the Ren or at the Hilton?

Weighed myself and I was at 226.6 pounds. Snow Shoveled for a half hour, weighed myself and it was 226.0.

And right now my shoulders and arms are beginning to stretch the shoulders of my shirt and sleeves.

I think it's now officially more commonplace than Nash to Toronto.

You're looking at it all wrong. Sure there's the Carrie thing, but if we weren't doing well no one would be talking about anyone coming here--they'd be talking about who they could take because OBVIOUSLY no one would WANT to play in Nashville.

I mean, we don't have indoor plumbing or 'lectricity. ;-)

I think ya'll need to just shuush on how great it is here in Nashville; just listen to all the ridiculous talk bout how no one wants to be here, or the only reason anyone would be here is cause of their wife, and in particular how Shea is gonna' sign in a "real" hockey market - just let them all faint and pick their jaws up when Shea signs that long-term contract this year, and then p#@ themselves when Suter re-ups the next.
