Don't think Philly needs to give up anything for a goalie when Turco will hit the market this summer.

Agreed. It will be at least mid-November before they go back on the hunt for a goalie after Turco implodes.

Actually, we in St. Louis are very concerned that Turco may be coming to St. Louis...afterall, former Stars GM Doug Armstrong takes over the job in St. Louis this off-season, and he already has had an influence in collecting former Stars cast-offs, Sydor & Crombeen.

He can't be worse than Leighton/Boucher.

Yeah, except for Briere's contract.

st louis needs to trade for their goaltender in my opinion. options include schneider, bernier, price. free agency will only yield them an aging band aid until bishop or allen MAYBE prove to pan out.

Whether there are going to be crazy trades or not, I dont know...

What I do know is that AEG is going to hype & market the crap out of the draft being in LA.

Should be good times. Very excited to go.

How much longer is Thomas going to be a tier 1 goalie? Guy isn't getting any younger. You could say the same thing about Turco, but at least with him, we don't have to dump an asset.

And you'd also be on the hook for Thomas's "can't get off the books because he signed when he's 35" contract.

If BOS is trying to trade Thomas - it's going to be a fire sale because of TT's contract. Some significant $'s would have to be coming back in a deal.

This too. I like Tim Thomas as a player, but he's not going to get much back in a trade.

yes, you do. the flyers won't be able to fit turco under the cap without shipping some salary.

Can be traded or moved in year 3 after july 1 2012.

So you have 2 years of a goalie i dont see declining in 2 seasons. He's a yoga fitness nut.

Year 3 you could buy him out he only makes 3 mil.

Flyers have around 9 million in cap space going into next year, and I doubt turco will be making anything over 4 mil.

Turco isn't the only player you need to sign. You don't have that much money.

maybe yes, maybe not, but even if he does you still have to resign coburn, carcillo, parent and three more players for 5m only which is pretty much impossible.

I'm in the Ellis camp. Sign him to a 2 year 6 million dollar contract. Re-sign Leighton for .7 million. Or keep Boucher if he continues to play well and into the playoffs. Sign either Rynnas or Bobrovsky for the AHL next year, and then the back-up position the next year. Have Eriksson play next season in Europe, then come over to the AHL. All of a sudden the Flyer's goal tending looks good.

Seriously though, I expect the Canes to make some moves with all the picks they have from the trade deadline. There is no way they move up into the top 3 of the draft though. JR may try, but I don't see any takers without a significant overpayment.

What I suspect will happen is they'll try and trade some picks and maybe younger players/prospects to try and get back a young roster player.

I don't think Edmonton has anything they could afford trading for the #2 pick without ripping apart the team to be honest

If they did it would have to be something like

Hemsky & Eberle/Svensson & all important 2nd rounder

Here are some things I could see

#
To Mtl
Lightning 1st round pick

To TB
G Jaroslav Halak
Habs 1st in 2011

Lightning get a franchise netminder and a future 1st while the Habs get what will likely be the #3 pick.

#2
To Pit
LW/RW Kris Versteeg

To Hawks
Penguins 1st in 2010
C Dustin Jeffrey

Penguins get a young winger who is an RFA after 2 more years and the Hawks get a late 1st + C/LW prospect

#3
To Atl
LW Patrick Sharp

To Chi
Devils 1st in 2010
Thrashers 1st in 2011

Thrashers get a veteran top line LW/RW while Hawks get a late 1st + 2011 1st (Weaker draft so it is a toss up) and go with Kyle Beach making our opening roster.

Flame away

Might want to check your numbers again. Unless Turco wants over 4 mil, we can probably fit him fine.

Meh, I wouldn't acquire a guy that I planned on buying out. I'd take Thomas, but only if we could deal a Briere back to Boston. Anyone else is a deal breaker.

Very Possible

But I see Phx trading Calgary's 1st this year and a 2nd or 3rd
or
Their 1st This and Next Year
for Sharpy if he were to be dealt

It would also make a lot of sense.

Sharp would be a great fit for Phoenix... or for Atlanta!

I don't view Halak as a "franchise" netminder, I think Price has more value tradewise although Halak has had a better season

Not really a smart move for a team on the rebuild. I am guessing if Pat leaves Chicago for Atlanta his production goes down 10-15 points. So basically 2 years(remaining on his contract) for 2 first rounders is pointless. Better off just taking the 4M caphit that Sharp would make and see what you can get on UFA market(sure it won't be as good but it won't cost as much) and keep the 2 picks hoping something pans out.
