It would be awesome if people said what position the spares they are taking played, so I didn't have to do a hockey reference search for half of them before updating the main page.

And 70s, 2 hours for a spare? Could have assassinated 3-4 teams in that time.

(I thought I was bad spending 30 minutes on figuring out my last spare).

Hey guys, sorry to miss my clock. Met a lovely girl at a show last night

In a surprise to nobody, Inglewood selects as their spare forward:

Daniel Sedin

I blame it entirely on EB. This was an easy choice for me until he came around.

The wind is blowing so hard in regina right now that I am legitimately concerned my phone will blow right out of my hand.

Hey fellas, finally got my internet installed at my new place. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it was something I couldn't avoid. I'll make up my skipped picks shortly. Thanks.

The Fusiliers select "a tower of strength", defenseman Clem Loughlin, captain of the Stanley Cup champion star-laden Victoria Cougars (Frank Fredrickson, Frank Foyston, Jack Walker, Hap Holmes) in their 1925 defeat of the Montreal Canadiens (Morenz, Joliat, Boucher), and later becoming the first captain of the NHL's Detroit Cougars, the forerunner of the Detroit Red Wings.

Before that he was on the PCHA First All-Star Team (1924), PCHA Second All-Star Team (1921, 1922, 1923) and coverpoint on the 1915 Allan Cup champion Winnipeg Monarchs (center was Dick Irvin).

Quote:
... a solid positional player who used his hard shot to score a few goals over the years. Most of his pro hockey was played in the PCHA where the more wide-open style suited his talents.

Born in Carroll, Manitoba Loughlin played senior hockey with the Winnipeg Monarchs and Strathconas before joining the PCHA's Portland Rosebuds in 1916-17. After one more year in Oregon, he joined the Victoria Cougars and was an integral part of the club's fortunes for eight years. Along the way he hit double figures in goals scored twice, was placed on the PCHA second all-star team three times and named to the first team in 1924. In 1925 he got his hands on the Stanley Cup after the Cougars vanquished the Montreal Canadiens in the final series. Loughlin remained with Victoria when it joined the WCHL/WHL after the demise of the PCHA.

In May, 1926, Loughlin became a member of the Detroit Cougars after the entire Victoria team was purchased by the NHL expansion club. He provided stability on defence for two years in Motown before he was sent to the Chicago Black Hawks for cash. Later he coached the Blackhawks for three years.

To find our 7th D, I analyzed our longlist of 15 modern defensemen. Judged them based on longevity, even strength play (offense and defense), PP prowess, PK ability, playoff experience, and intangibles. This guy came out on top, and I thought he would:

Glen Wesley, D

Amonte may have been the best goal-scorer remaining at the time of his selection. I would only consider putting two ahead of him - An O6 garbageman, and a modern center that nobody will select.

Boy, do I like what I see for MLD goalies now.

(that's 60 goalies drafted now so I don't think any more are getting taken)

Yes I believe you were the last because to my knowledge, no one has three goalies.

Tidewater selects C Charlie Burns

Legends of Hockey:
Quote:
Always known more for his excellent defensive skills, he collected 13 goals and 51 points in his best NHL season, for Pittsburgh, in 1968-69.

If he had played longer in the post-expansion era, Burns certainly would have been a candidate for nomination as the NHL's best defensive forward. But the Frank J. Selke Trophy wasn't awarded for the first time until 1978, five years after he'd played his last NHL game.

Burns was a beast of a penalty killer. He was on the ice for SEVENTY NINE percent of his team's PPGA. I think he's the post-expansion leader in that category.
