Should the Leafs honor Sundin's #13 at their 2010/2011 home opener?

I am sure it will be a matter of time when the Leafs honor Mats Sundin's #13, so should they do it next season during their 2010/2011 home opener?

I don't see why not. Some may think it's too soon, but he deserves that honour.

I think they should......they should have a Sundin honoring ceremony. But to close it out, he has to pass the C on to Phaneuf

What they could do is invite him to a game - then put a compilation of sorts up on the jumbotron ending with a gradually phased out '#13' with a Blue and White background, upon which the cameras will zoom in on him and the fans can cheer or not; a bit like what they did with Tucker when Colorado was in town, you know...

I think if we are finally giving the C to Dion that they could do a cool sort of passing the torch sort of thing

We've seen Detroit and Colorado amongst many others perform this ceremony even sooner I think with Yzerman and Sakic.

Mats is in their league for what he meant to this team, and I would be on board if it happened this October.

Of course he should. If you don't agree, you have too short of a memory. Mats has done so much for this franchise and just because he left for one season, he doesn't deserve to get his Jersey Honoured for another 10 years. Thats insane.

someone's bitter

You can't tell me that Mats doesn't deserve this.

He was an amazing player in Toronto for a long time. Argueably the best this franchise has ever seen.

He deserves it, and I would totally understand if they did it next year.

If Sundin had had the class and the value that Sakic/Yzerman had had to their respective teams his number should have been up there yesterday...

Sundin was great, but you've got to prove yourself everyday on a team like the Leaf's...

It's a good thing Yzerman and Sakic didn't have the misfortune of being Maple Leafs for most of their productive seasons and then have an old fart like Fletcher try to throw you out the door at the end of the day.

not the best, one of the best. and if it took over a decade to honour wendel and dougie, mats can wait his turn. i dont want to turn this into another one of those debates, i just think its too soon. itll happen in due time, im sure.

A decade is 10 years, neither waited that long let alone over.

Gilmour was last a Leaf in 97 or 98 I believe. Clark was, 2000? Oh wait, Gilmour had one shift in 2004. I suppose that counts. Yeah, so 5 years then? Is 5 years ok with everyone? Or maybe we can speed it up, let's do it in Montreal on Saturday. Or maybe on draft day, steal the thunder from all those teams with 1st rounders. Forget going after Hall or Seguinieo, we can honour a jersey! Celebrate the somewhat decent parts of our past! YES!

Then, when Kaberle is traded in the offseason, we can honour his jersey the next day!

So to sum up, you don't think it should be Opening Night?

Yeah, because lord knows when Jonas Hoglund, Dinitri Kristich, Harold Druken or Lonny Bohnos is playing on your wing, you don't need to prove yourself anymore

Some would argue that Sundin's contribution to the Leafs in total is greater than Clark's or Gilmour's.

Personally, I'm not sure that I would have ever honoured Clark's number. I've just never seen him as one of the all-time Leafs greats. And as for Gilmour, I always question whether he should be considered one of the all-time greats because of the relatively short time he was here. He was definitely great for a few years but was it enough to raise him to the all-time greats?

unfortunate for us.

Those 2 were true leaders and I would hazard a guess that if they were on this team their entire careers, we would have at least 1 cup.

No one really thinks about these things logically.

I voted no for obvious reasons. Give him his own night.

They should do it the same night they announce the new Captain.
