Wings sign Joakim Andersson

Going to sign the deal today, Friday, per his agent Patrik Aronsson. It's a "very nice contract" according to him.

http://hockey.expressen.se/elitserie...ar-for-detroit

It also says that he will be in GR next season.

Wonder if it'll be a deal that leaves Andersson in Sweden for another year or if they're looking at getting him into GR next year. Either way, good signing.

That is good to hear. Hopefully this helps HTD if anything come over. And if not its ok because Andersson is going to be a 3rd/4th liner at worst.

Yeah, good to hear about the signing. I'm looking forward to him finally coming over to North America.

Depends on his skating, bObert.
I continue to read that his skating is below average. It's tough to break into the league with below average speed.

Ya, I don't know how bad his skating is cause I haven't seen him play. Hopefully it isn't too bad or correctable.

and where do you read that?

on RCW a few month ago it sounded like this:

Quote:
"I compare him to (Valterri) Filppula, other than the speed," Hakan Andersson said. "A really good all-around player like Filppula but he's not as fast."

Skating has always been Joakim's bugaboo. It was a big reason why he wasn't drafted in the first round as predicted by The Hockey News.

"He's working on it," Hakan Andersson said. "He's getting better."
jocke is still not the greatest skater, but i don't think skating is an issue for him. two years ago at the WJC he was able to play on a line with tedenby, one of the best skaters i've ever seen. jocke didn't look out of place with his skating there.

No, Jocke's skating should be fine. What he really needs to improve is his finishing skills. Dude would have had 25 goals this year if he was a decent shot. He gets himself a ton of scoring opportunities thanks to superb hockey sense and vision.

Kinda also depends on whether he's mature enough to handle playing away from home. If he's another rubber sheet guy, then it doesn't really matter how his skating is.

If you refer to Dick Axelsson I doubt it, he is kinda the "problem child" of Swedish hockey.
Quote from the article about playing in Grand Rapids for starters:

-But he's gonna manage it perfectly. He's got the right character to sooner of later end up in the Detroit Red Wings, predicts Patrik Aronsson (his agent).

He has a bit of a history of having a poor attitude, making bad decisions, and getting in trouble, from what I've read over the years.

Right but he's making it sound like he's among the worst cases ever.

Ah, yeah, I don't know about that. Regardless, after his bailout from GR this season, I pretty much wrote him off as a prospect. I don't expect to ever see him in Detroit. I hope he proves me wrong, but my best hope is that the Wings get something for him as part of a trade someday.

Hat Trick Dick.... still a cool nickname.

well, he was 18 when we drafted him. It's just taken awhile for him to grow into his skill set.

If he can't finish, then Hakan was right. Sounds like Filppula indeed.

Great news. Maybe Grand Rapids will actually be worth a damn next year. Wish we could do something about that defense

Is Smith coming to GR next year? I have a feeling he'll have an impact in the offensive zone straight away.

What will the D look like in 10-11? Janik?, Pyett, Kolosov?, Ehrhardt, Lashoff, Smith, Piché ...?

Yeah, it'll take a hit without Kindl. Yes you heard me right. Kindl's been the least of the Griffins worries this season.

Smith - Lashoff (question marks on both these guys, but it's a pairing I'd love to see!)
Janik - Pyett
Kolosov - Piche

Ehrhardt
OKT? Doubtful

That defence actually looks more than decent to me. Big potential on that top pairing, Janik is steady as a rock in the AHL, Pyett had a very solid season, Kolosov improves with every game, Piche had a nightmare season but I love his upside, and Ehrhardt is a somewhat intruiging prospect.

As for forwards, the guys that'll be back next year:

Emmerton, Mursak, Tatar, Pare (Andersson)

Hopefully return:

Oulahen, Rissmiller, Vigilante, Williams (can score...), Armstrong, Owens.

Hopefully one or more of these make the trip:

Ferraro, Coetzee, Johnston
