I have the Hockey News and always keep their mock drafts and it is amazing how wrong they often turn out to be.

If both Skinner AND Howden are available at 20 I would be stunned if DL didn't pick one of them. DL may be known to follow his own path when it comes to the draft but he also knows how to pick solid safe prospects that have an NHL skillset and while McFarland has his upside why would you pass on Howden (who I liked more every time I watched him play these past two seasons) and Skinner (who I like but there are times when Skinner floats, not that he isn't clutch but when it isn't on the line I have watched him float around instead of simply taking a game over) to draft him.

I see Galiev as a sort Filatov type of player, lots of speed and good hands but hasn't really developed a nose for the net. You think he will develop into a true sniper in time but why not yet? Don't know and I only saw him play 14 times this past year (live 3 times) but I would stand by my assessment.

I also think that B Connolly has the chops to be a truly great NHLer if his health issues can be remedied. I am looking around for where I read it but I remember reading that his problems appear to be degenerative and if that is the case, I can't see him ever really being able to overcome it.

I could see him getting picked around the 8 spot if he can get a clean bill of health but I am not expecting it.

I like N Bjug but having go at 9 is a reach imo. He has a weird gate to his motion and his mechanics aren't great (slow first step). Once he gets moving he can skate pretty well but something about his first few steps are off and unless he can fix this, I can see it being a problem at the next level. I like him and think he should make the bigs but I am not sold yet and certainly not in the top ten.

Tarasenko at 14 is a bit of a reach and Little Nino Knickers at 8? I will be very surprised if he drops past the 6th pick.

I guess I am also alone on Pysyk dropping into the second round. Lots of skill but the kid just can't seem to put it together for more than a shift or two at a time without making a silly mistake. His size isn't a problem nor is is speed but it seems like he just isn't thinking at times. I had a chance to see him play a bit this year and while I liked him allot at times, he just screams out 2nd round pick to me.

I know that controversy sells papers and that there are probably a few picks that they have made with that in mind but this mock draft seems a stinker to me.

IIRC They pegged Smolinski as a 50 goal scorer

Habsfan18 shared a bunch of old THN Draft Previews: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=516093

Most noted that their stuff has gone downhill since Bob McKenzie left. Definitely some hilarious stuff to laugh at in hindsight.

- "He's not real flashy" -- anonymous scout on Jaromir Jagr
- "If there's one player who one day could have a greater impact than Eric Lindros, it will likely be Pat Falloon."
- "He plays the game the way it's meant to be played." -- scout on Chris Gratton
- "Everything good, nothing outstanding." -- scout on Jarome Iginla

Hobbes and Tonellisghost - great posts. Thanks for the reads. I agree that you don't move up unless there's a guy you really want and don't think he'll be there when you pick.

I'm not crazy about Pysyk FWIW, but I thought he was better last year on a better Edmonton team. He just looked adrift on a lousy team this year, so I don't know how much of that is his play or the situation. If Alex Petrovic is rated near the end of the first round/start of the second round, Pysyk should be selected well before Petrovic IMO.

I wasn't aware that I missed anyone. If I did, please repost your 3 picks.

But on a serious note, I highly doubt Connolly drop down to our pick. I've seen him as high as #4 and low as #13. But hey, you never know with injured players.

I'd like to know where you read that.Who's the source.

Botta's had 2 recent Connolly articles. The first one quoted an eastern conference scout, who says Connolly's injuries aren't considered to be serious and Connolly's still very high on his list.

The 2nd Botta article was an interview, with Connolly saying he'll undergo any tests teams want him to take to prove he's healthy.

If I was a GM considering taking you with a top ten pick, I would not just look at what the NHLís independent medical team had to say about you. I would have my team doctors give you a thorough evaluation. If teams request that of you, Brett, will you comply?

Absolutely. Iím willing to do whatever it takes to get the point across that Iím healthy. I know there are concerns. I donít take them lightly, especially if a team is going to use an early draft pick on me. I will be available for any NHL team that wants to give me a full check-up. I will visit any team, wherever they want me to be. Iím sure I have a few doctor visits in my future. Iím all for it.

MTL winning is a good thing for the Kings, no? Correct me if I'm wrong but we would then be picking at 19 instead of 20 in the draft..? Can someone please tell me how this goes down?

The Kings will pick no later than 20th. They will pick 19th if Montreal wins their series. Assuming Pittsburgh, Boston, San Jose, and Chicago advance, picks 15-26 would look like:

15. Montreal
16. Anaheim via Philadelphia
17. Ottawa
18. Colorado
19. Nashville
20. Los Angeles
21. Detroit
22. Phoenix
23. Buffalo
24. Atlanta via New Jersey
25. Vancouver
26. Washington
Yes, it's a good thing.

With Montreal winning and Boston/Philadelphia going to Game 7, I believe it is all but guaranteed that the Kings are picking 20th.

I forgot that Anaheim has Philly's pick. Here's to a Flyers victory in game 7.
