Current Kings playoff seeding chances

APRIL SCHEDULE:

KINGS COMMENTS:

"We’re obviously pretty disappointed. We want to get on a roll here before the playoffs start. Up by two goals, with however many minutes were left, we can’t let them get back in the game and win that game. If we’re doing that in the playoffs, we’re going to be losing four-nothing in a series. We need to learn from that and step forward."
- Drew Doughty, after Thursday's shootout loss to Phoenix

"It’s that time of the year, when everybody is trying to get right on top of their game. We certainly have to work on that a little more. We still have two more games left, so we want to finish off on a good note. Fifth place is still up for grabs too, so it’s definitely something to play for. We’ve got to realize that and get after it."
- Anze Kopitar, after Thursday's shootout loss to Phoenix

"I think off the faceoff there, they had a couple set plays that worked out for them there. The second one was my fault. I was blowing coverage there off the draw. I should be up on my winger there, and it’s a tip that goes in so it’s bad plays by us, mental miscues. I should definitely have that second one; nobody’s else’s deal. We’ve just got to sharpen up, know what your assignment is and do it."
- Matt Greene, after Thursday's shootout loss to Phoenix

At least Kopitar can't ruin our draft position with some useless goals in the final 1 or 2 games.

Will Quick actually get win #40 against the worst team in the NHL?

A solid performance by Quick certainly wouldn't hurt.

Fan appreciation day! Woohoo!

The jersey off of Doughty's back would be cool.

will be in sec 302. Friend at work has one seat and she is watching the Frozen four in Detroit. Now if I win the truck do I give it to her, buy her dinner as a thank you, or don't even tell her?

If she was hot I'd say you could do something else.

I'll be there in Section 303 in my old school Gretzky jersey. If you have trouble finding me, I'll be with my 2 buddies that, for some reason, are gonna dress like blind, hick refs. You won't be able to miss them.

If you're in the "Quick has lost his confidence" corner, he's not going to get his confidence back sitting on the bench.

So far this season when Quick has rested due to forced breaks, he's come back rusty. The 8 game break in December, the Olympic break. He came back rusty after both. As odd as it seems to keep playing him, he seems to perform better when he has a regular workload.

Fatigue is a factor, but that's a factor (more or less) for every goalie in the playoffs at this point. Nabokov has played a crazy number of games and while he stumbled terribly post Olympics, the coach kept playing him and now he's looking as fresh as ever. You never know.

The difference between Quick and Nabokov is that Nabokov has been through the rigors of a full NHL season numerous times before. Quick has not.

I just don't get this decision, even if Quick doesn't start tomorrow. Why not play Ersberg against the lesser of the two teams? The Kings need to win both games to assure themselves of fifth place.

I think you already know the answer, so that Quick can get his 40th win.

... I've written at least a hundred posts about this, and not ONE time have I mentioned Quick's confidence. I've written that the man needs a rest once in a great while -- not just physically, but mentally -- and also that quite frankly, he hasn't been good enough to justify Murray's ridiculous need to start him every single game. And, beyond that, I know the Quick backers here won't look at the results (probably because Quick's results are unimpressive), but Quick has done his best work on the rare occasions he's had three or more days rest, so I hardly think that his confidence would be adversely affected.

I was referring to the other posters that do feel that way, not you. I agree that the odds say that Quick needs the occasional rest, but that needed to start 40 games ago. It's too late for that now. Whatever fatigue has set in isn't going to disappear by sitting a game. It'd also go completely against how he's been handled all season.

The coaching staff is gambling that Quick needs the work, not the rest. We'll find out in a few days if it was the right move or not.

Honestly, I'm more concerned at this point about the anemic offense. Save for Vancouver, the 5 on 5 offense has vanished.

You answered your own question. You know as well as I do that the coaching staff has no confidence in Ersberg to win a game. They need to win both if they want 5th, so they'll play Quick in both.

Vancouver, here we come (and honestly, I wouldn't mind that).

Ersberg's played fine in the situations he's been dropped into the past couple weeks. He should be starting today. Quick will be one more game tired than he needs to be if he starts tomorrow, and if he doesn't, the Kings aren't giving themselves their best chance to win against a better team tomorrow. Either way, this is a stupid decision.

Edmonton is 5-4-1 in their last 10. No players resting. Wins vs. Detroit and San Jose

Colorado is 3-5-2 in their last 10 and will be resting players. Wins vs. San Jose and Vancouver

We'll be seeing the "better" team today - on paper.

Perfect game to get momentum. Quick should be able to get his 40th today.
