Belated thought about the game: Woah, did Kari look huge when he went for that pokecheck in the shootout or what? I know he's a large human, but man, I can see how that would unnerve a shooter.
I mentioned the same thing when I was watching the shootout. Even if he had missed, there was a TON of body to go around before he got to the net. Great move in general attacking the rookie shooter like that, I thought.
Yeah, I almost turned the channel to boxing until I saw that starting and just sat there watching it. It truly is remarkable how much Modano changed throughout the years, not just from the day he was drafted until today, but even five years ago to today.
On that note, I do hope this was it for Modano. All of this the past couple of games was just too perfect, outside a Cup victory of course. If he came back, I don't think it would be the same.
There's little question he can still play, but I'd hate to see him end up like Sakic in his last year. This is selfish, but I also don't want to see him ride himself into the ground in what would diminish my memories of him. I really did forget just how dominating he could be during his prime, and his sometimes lack of motivation in recent years has certainly clouded my recollection of him.
We all know he'll be around the organization as long as its around and he's alive. He's not moving anywhere. Modano is, quite simply, the franchise, and the franchise is Mike Modano.
I don't know if this is in the Razorisms thread, but I love the quote from Razor in that video
"At times it seems like the pressure and the weight has been I'm sure unbearable for him, but it's never the load that breaks you down. It's the way you carry it, and he has carried this franchise well, from day one on."
