Make Playoffs or Draft 10th Overall?

I obviously want the Habs to make the playoffs, but it's been so frustrating watching them lately, that they probably don't deserve to be there.

I was looking at the standings today, and if the Habs DO end up missing the playoffs, we could potentially be drafting 10th overall. There would be a few really good young players available in this position including possibly Nino Niderreiter or Brett Connolly...

I know the hardcore fans will say that they want to make the playoffs anyways, which I agree, but i'm curious to know if people would prefer to make the playoffs, or draft 10th?

I'd definitely prefer to make the playoffs. However, don't quote me on that if we don't. I'll just say I wanted them to get the draft pick all along

Well it's pretty much, get swept in the first round, or draft 10th overall.

Draft 10th overall and take Nick Bjugstad or Oscar Lindberg, both are centreman over 6'0'' tall

We are okay with defense (Subban, Carle, Weber, Fischer etc.) we are okay with wingers (Pacioretty, Kristo, Avstin etc.)

WE NEED A BIG CENTREMAN!!!

Playoffs.

And the odds of going 10th are insanely low... More like 14th.

So, if Flyers win, Habs lose, Ducks win, Stars win, isn't that 11th overall pick & 8th seed in the East?
Ideal situation for me, no?

No, the non-playoff teams get the first picks/entry into lottery. Playoff teams are seeded in reverse order of standings, with Cup winner drafting 30th.

So if we make it, the Flames pick a head of us no matter what.

Are you serious? Lindberg in the top 10?

He's likely not even a 1st round pick..Not even sure if he'll go in round 2.

Couple of months ago people here didn't even want a top 5 pick when they clearly knew we would get kicked out in the 1st round, now they would consider 10th overall. This is what the Habs need,1 really bad year like the Oilers and get that 1st overall pick but some fans would prefer us fighting for 8th for the next 20+ years

At this point I want the Habs to make the playoffs cause the pick won't change anything, but I also want 1 bad year and get that franchise player that we haven't had in so many years or make trades and land other teams 1st instead of us trading our 1st

Look at first round drafting in the last decade. Rounds 2-7 have been brilliant. But look at first round drafting.

So yeah, playoffs.

Nino will be gone before we pick.. so I expect Johansen to be select by Montreal because they showed interess in him last year.

I'm still not sold on Nino as a top 10 pick. I know he's the "sexy" selection because of his WJC tournament, and because of his playing style...but I'm still not 100% sold on him.

It's rare that I want the Habs to draft a specific guy 2 months before the draft.. but now I'm very high on Johansen !

Would love to get a top pairing D-man. Forbort and Pysyk would most likely be available.

I think we're good on D.

Assuming Markov stays too, we have a lot of good D in the pipe Subban, Weber, and Carle should all eventually be NHLers, although I imagine only two of three will be with Montreal due to their similar games. Gorges and O'Byrne are quite young too.

Markov - Subban
Gorges - Weber
X - O'Byrne

Could be the line-up one day...

Not saying we're set on D, but we have a shocking lack of forward prospects.

You know, a lot of these big centers will be available at 15.

Make the playoffs and have the middle 1st round pick. This summer in the draft or before the draft we will see Montreal make some deals and we may move up the draft regardless.

And Weber might not.

Then again, we don't know how these guys will develop. There's also a shocking lack of toughness.

A guy like Forbort would make this d-corps miles better. 6'4, will likely play at 220-230, can move the puck, hits like a truck.

Definately would rather have that than any forward that will likely be there at the 10th spot.

Then again, I'm a person that strongly believes in having a great defense before a great forward group.
